As you know AIDS is a virus; this would indicate that a vaccine could be synthesized to protect the body from HIV. The difficulty, however, is that it is a vicious virus that can not be controlled, nor can scientists find a viable substitute (ex. substitute: cow pox substitute for small pox virus). This is the tip of the iceberg when thinking about finding a cure for such a virus. One can easily find more information through search engine research.
The answer to curing cancer appears to be a simultaneous yes and no. Scientists have created cell specific agents that target such mutations and destroy them. Thus, simply speaking, this could be considered a cure for cancer. Yet it must be noted that these agents soon start to fail, and the mutations become immune to them. Sometimes the agents used to destroy the cancer can have a negative impact, as they actually may cause additional mutations to healthy cells.
Curing cancer would require a technique to eliminate all mutating cells. For arguments sake lets assume that they have cured cancer. The human body can never be perfect, so even if they cured this version of cancer, another most likely more powerful mutation would arise.
Simply stated, we have to accept that we are animals, and will die. It is simply a human drive to hope (for cures).

"THEY ARE making too much money off it"? And how much money do you think the company that finds some sort of panacea for these diseases will make?
