My advice is no. I actually love that car but you should think of something else. It is very expensive to insure the 300 and for you it will be ridiculous.

If you want performance and reliability, try a Mazda RX-7. They're a bit heavy on gas though, but the Rotary engine has very few moving parts and puts out a lot of power for only being 1.3L
On the flipside of the coin, Rotary mechanics are a bit hard to find, due to the engine being vastly different from a regular piston one. By design, they use oil. But with these negatives, you get the simplicity of the design, which will last 300,000+ miles (with proper care), because there's less than 10 moving pieces inside the engine.
With a rotary, you MUST let it warm up (5-10 minutes), no matter what the temperature is. It'll give you a very long-lasting engine in return.

If insurance is a factor, as everyone has mentioned so far, a sleeper car is your best bet. I agree with the Volvo 850 Turbo being a good buy... but if you want a stick-shift (which the 850 does NOT have), test drive an '89-'95 Ford Taurus SHO. I own one, insurance is OK, and based on the specs, it should be just as quick as a non-turbo 5-speed Nissan 300ZX (maybe quicker).

No it is not a good first car. A used Ford Taurus Wagon, pick -up truck, Pontiac Grand Prix, Oldsmoble Nissan Altima. High speed cars Firebirds. Camaros Mustangs Subaru WRX-STI Mitsubushi Lancers. 300ZX and 350Z. are only good after the kid completes a year accident free and also completes a drivers car control school "thedriversedge.com"

I agree with the last answer. One of my buddies had a 300ZX when I was in high school. His was 5 years old at the time and his insurance was ridiculous. His parents paid the insurance while he made the monthly payments because he was only 17 when he got it. He said that it was cheaper for him to make the monthly payments than to pay the insurance.

like everyone said, it's gonna be expensive in insure, go for something like a Pontiac Grand Prix, I have an 02, it has about 230 hp, it's pretty quick, and not considered a sports car, so it's cheap to insure.
