The question of Billy Grahams association with Freemasonry has been discussed many times, especially by his followers.

For a time the Louisianna Masonic Family website listed Graham as a member and a famous mason, also Genesee Lodge No. 174 listed him as a member on their website as well. His name has now been removed from both site rosters and was never included by the Grand Lodge, the ONLY official source of members of Freemasonry. It has happened a few times where over zealous lodge members who create sites for their lodges simply believe what they read elsewhere and re-print it on their own sites without checking it first!!

Cephaministry contacted the BILLY GRAHAM EVANGELISTIC ASSOCIATION on this very topic, to which they responded with a lengthy letter. The main points made were:

1. BGEA does not have an official position on Freemasonry. Mr. Graham's response that he is not, has not, and does not expect ever to be involved in Freemasonry is as close to any policy that we have.

2. Freemasons do not have compatible beliefs with fundamental Christianity.

3. We would not suggest that a person take an oath of Freemasonry.

Now I can't say I agree with 2 & 3, but 1 should clear up your question nicely.

No.

to some other responses:

* if your grandfather was an atheist he could not have been a freemason

* you must believe in God (supreme being) to be a freemason

* Bush is NOT a freemason

* you are correct, freemason does not offer salvation, religions do that... freemasonry is a social fraternity that studies morality through ritual, symbol and allegory.

I don't know if he was or not. Freemasonry is simple a society dedicated to making good men better and the only thing it has to do with religion is to encourage its members to be upright members of their religion.

I do not think so, but they have different levels and you can also believe in God.

I do not have a good feeling about them. I heard that the President Bush is also involved with them.

I was told that man can become a better man if Freemason, but not necessarily saved.

I don't know and don't care.

Knowing he's a multimillionaire anti-semitic charlatan is enough for me to treat his name with the proper disdain.

My atheist grandfather was a freemason and he wouldn't have spent five seconds on someone like Graham.
