NASA's space shuttle (possibly considered a military "plane" even though it isnt a plane) is capable of going roughly 23 times the speed of sound (mach 23) or 17500 mph orbital velocity.
the next would be NASA's X15, approx Mach 6
then it's the SR71 blackbird, approx Mach 3
just to give you an idea of the speed of sound, sound travels in air at approximately 761 mph at 0 feet MSL (sea level)

The fastest armed military aircraft is the MIG-31 foxhound, a much more modern relative of the MIG-25 interceptor.
The Fastest unarmed aircraft is the SR-71 spyplane, which cruises at up to mach 3.3 and at up to 95,000ft.
The Pilot operating handbook for the SR-71 has been declassified and available online, and it makes very clear that the engines are more than capable of pushing the aircraft faster than mach 3.3. There is actually a warning that says "when climbing at mach 3, remember to reduce the throttle before leveling off to avoid overspeeding the aircraft".
The next fastest unarmed aircraft is the MIG-25 spyplane which is capable of mach 3.2, but only for extremely short periods.
For fighter aircraft, the F-15 is the worlds fastest, capable of mach 2.5 and holding the world climbing record below 50,000ft.
The fastest bomber ever made was the B-70 Valkyrie, capable of mach 3, but was never adopted for service.
The fastest bomber to enter service is the TU-160 blackjack, capable of mach 2.2. The blackjack is also the heaviest combat aircraft ever built.

the SR-71 Blackbird holds the record for fastest, highest flying air breathing aircraft. Mach 3.31 at 85,000 feet. It is a military reconaissance aircraft.
Your average military fighter will top out between mach 2 and 2.5 depending on which one.
Anything that has flown faster has been a research aircraft and generally rocket powered.

SR-71.
It was confrimed at Mach 3, but rumors still exist that this aircraft was operated at much higher mach, and actually out ran a missle, about mach 5, but that was never confrimed.
Nasa also just flew their scram jet aircraft, and was Mach 6+, or technically, the space shuttle is a miltary aircraft, as is operated and paid for by the government, so this would be the fastest aircraft, moving around 11,000mph.
