it depends. If Iran attacks us or an ally or any other country unprovoked and that country asks for our help, then no but if we just attack because we think they might, possibly have a weapon which we know cannot reach us then it would be

Please, please, please tell me what the term "illegal war" means. When is war deemed as legal or illegal? To some people, its based off of when congress gives the go ahead for it, which has not happened since World War 2. I don't think war can ever be illegal. War is war. Thats it, theres no legality or illegality until you get to the Rules of War. So to answer your question, no, it would just be a freaking war. The right question to ask is would it be right to invade and fight Iran, and the answer to that question depends on what happens. I think only if it becomes blatantly obvious that Iran has a nuclear weapon should we invade. But as far as it being "illegal," thats just a dumb term people picked up after that Hawaiin coward decided he would not show up for duty and got his butt court martialed.

If the Congress does not approve, it will be called a "police action" or some-such thing to avoid criminality.
For the United States, Article One, Section Eight of the Constitution says "Congress shall have power to ... declare War," however, that passage provides no specific format for what form legislation text must have to be considered a "Declaration of War" nor does the Constitution itself use this term. Many have postulated "Declaration(s) of War" must contain that phrase as or within the title. Many oppose that reasoning. The postulate has not been tested in court; however, this article will use the term "formal Declaration of War" to mean Congressional legislation that uses the phrase "Declaration of War" in the title.

Their hero Ronald Reagan supported Iran with a hostage substitute *cough* Iran-Contra Affair *cough*. Conservatives are not relatively too clever while it is composed of not helping terrorism. that's all conservatism to me relatively is.

Depends on how it started.
If Iran attacks and we retaliate, or if Congress passes a war bill, yes. Very legal.
If neither of those, then it gets to be a tougher call.

At this moment - yes. We cant invade countries w/ nuclear capabilities because they have capabilities (or we'd have to destroy our own arsenal if that were the case). Iran has not invaded another country either.

Legality is largely irrelevant.
It's illegal for Saudi Arabia to encourage suicide bombings, but that doesn't stop them.
