I will tell you what I told my kids hen they looked for their first job.

Start at your house and work outward. Go to every group of buisness offices near you. Go into each one and ask if they are hiring. Be sure to mention that you live nearby and will never have "the car excuse" for not getting in. And that you can easily be called to fill in on short notice.

Dont look for signs and dont let the tyoe of buisiness stop you. Even a lawyers office needs someone to clean up. Or they might know of someone who might hire you. Ask everyone.

If you find a business that you are particularly interested in, then talk to the manager. Even if they arent hiring, talk to the manager. Tell the manager that you really want to work HERE. Not just somebody looking to work anyplace but you want to work HERE. Then no matter what the manager says, go back in a couple of days and talk to the manager again. Then a couple of days later. The reason for this is that at every job SOMEBODY is on the shitlist. Maybe they havent messed up enough to fire them, and put ads in the paper, and interview new people. Give the manager the ammunition to say "hey I got someone begging me for your job and I think I will give it to them"

Do not trust your memory to remember what places are near you. GO there. Walk the sidewalks.

Do not bother looking at ads for jobs that are an hours drive away. Why find a job at minimum wage an hour away when there might be a better one nearby.
