My husband is leaving Dec. 18th. He was originally going in for mechanics but has switched to combat control apprentice. I am having our second child (boy) in April. Should I expect to see him in Feb for graduation?

After that I plan to live in Chgo for some months to collect some BAH plus it seems pointless to follow him around with 2 kids while he goes through all that extensive training. Does anyone know when we will be able to "settle" down and do you think he will be allowed to fly out for the birth (I prefer to give birth in Chicago)?

The recruiter says Hulbert Fl seems likely like our final destination but that would be in two years wouldn't it? So meanwhile what happens? Any advice for Combat Control and what the future holds?

How long does housing take to get? And according to our family size what do you think we'd end up with.

I can't find a lot on yahoo answer for it. I know Thanks for any help! :-) I kno I can ask the recruiter but I want answers from experience plz

CC's have over a 70-80% fail rate. He will not be allowed to leave CC training for the birth. Most trainees fail out in indoc, so until after that it will be nearly impossible to figure out when and where for anything.

Hurlburt Field Base Housing

I dont know personally about that job but second hand from friends is it that is a long school and ending up at Hurlburt is a good bet. You can stay where you want until then. If you married and he recieves BAH it will be based on your location. And yes it will be difficult and expensive for you to follow him around. You are better off staying with family and taking care of yourself and just call him and get a webcam. That way you can see him when you want. It's easy. Im in Korea without my family and we have vonage and a webcam and talk and see each other everyday. If I were you I would contact a few base related organizations for help and information. You can go to afcrossroads.com and find lots of information about all military installations and many websites and support groups. Search the web for Air Force Wives support groups...lots of them..You can also call any base and ask for there Family Support Center and they will help you with anything you need. Good luck!

Forget him getting leave from Indoc to see the birth.

Thats not gonna happen.

You will see him at Basic training graduation, if you go to San Antonio to see him.

They Air Force does not grant leave after Basic training, you go straight to Tech School.

His Tech School is long enough, that you will be on his orders for Tech School. Longer than 26 weeks.

But in your case, it would be better to stay around family for the baby and because of the high failure rate of his chosen Tech School.

As a new CCT, base choices are :

HURLBURT FIELD FL
MCCHORD AFB WA
POPE AFB NC

Those are the three AFB's that 3 level CCT's can be assigned to.

His Tech School will not last 2 years, it last about 35 weeks.

Follow on training after that, will last for awhile.

Base housing at Hurlburt Field right now, has a waiting list for 2 bedroom housing for junior enlisted of 2 to 8 months.

But there are plenty of off base apartments available.

Depending on the age of the children, you will most likely get a 2 bedroom, as they get older, then a 3 bedroom.

You could move to Hurlburt while he is still in Tech School, but that will be up to the two of you.

He will know when he is comfotable that he will pass training.

you are looking in the wrong place. try the Military.com Forums and Military OneSource.

BAH will be based on your location during Basic training and schooling. after that it will be based on his duty station. even if you choose not to go with him.

Only your doctor can tell you if traveling is safe in April. If he is still in training he will NOT be allowed to take leave.

Housing varies from base to base and also depends on paygrade. Wait lists can be up to 2 years long. Depending on paygrade you could be only entitled to an apartment style, or you could get a duplex style.

if they stick the written guidelines, all children under age 6 share a room, same sex under 12 share and all 12 and up get their own room. so depending on how old your oldest is, you could qualify for either a 2 or 3 BR unit.
