Because we rely on the Bible, and the "ever virgin" thing is not in the Bible. That's an example or people teaching the traditions of men as the commandments of God. Bad idea.

As you can see by the answers you have gotten, many non-catholics insist on defining what we catholic believe and practice despite what we say, explain and profess. They do not understand that we hold a special place of reverence for her as the mother of God, that we believe she was cleansed of original sin at her conception so as to be a spotless tabernacle for the child she was to bear. That because of this she was born as perfect a human being as is possible and that she is, after the trinity, first among the heavenly host and spiritual mother to all mankind. Yes, all honor and glory is to God and He may dispense His blessing on whomever He wills. Thus has he bestowed honor and grace to her as to no other. In imitation of Him and His Son do we honor her. When we pray entreating her intercession, we beg her aid in praying with us as any child in need of help would call on his mother.
All I can add is that this aversion protestants have to the devotion to the Blessed Mother is based in willful ignorance because it certainly has been explained often enough.
Addithionally for those who claim scripture declares Mary had other children:
1.) please include the scriptural reference and
2.) What were their names.
All references I have seen that could be stretched into such fantasies are actually referring to mankind as a brotherhood or where possibly the wording translated from a rootword that also meant cousin.
Oh yes and let us not forget the "Jesus, firstborn of Mary"
Sorry folks, an only child would also be a firstborn.
And for those who like to quote out of context,,,here ya go..."I am alpha and omega, the first and last"

Many, if not most, Protestants believe in the miracle of the virgin birth. They do not believe, however, that Mary should be worshiped any more than other biblical characters. In fact, she seems to be lower in status even than the other biblical characters and that's probably because she was female.

What do you mean believe in her? You mean the immaculate conception, perpetual virginity and assumption? These other myths that were dogmatized by the Roman church we do not accept. They are not biblical.
We do believe what scripture says about her. She was a virgin at the time of Jesus' birth. We further believe what Matthew teaches:
13:55 Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother named Mary? And aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? 13:56 And aren’t all his sisters here with us?

Well, for one thing most should believe in her, because she is the mother of Jesus. We do not worship her, however. We do appreciate her because she was such a holy person, but if you turn and worship her, that's like worshiping an idol in a sense. God is the one who made her, and Jesus, and everything.
We do not hate her, either.

It is not that they do not like Mary, rather real Christians honor her by Biblically preaching on her, while Catholics dishonor the real Mary by their unBiblical claims and exaltation.
1. We believe she was a virgin, but did not stay that way after she gave birth to Jesus, as "And knew her not TILL she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS." (Mat 1:25).
2. We do not call her "the Mother of God" as that is ontologically impossible, as God created Mary, while she provided the body for Jesus.
3. We do not pray to Mary, as nowhere in Scripture is anyone prayed to in Heaven but the Lord, and which is a mark of Deity, and the Bible explicitly tell us ot come directly to the throne of grace to Jesus (Heb. 4:14-16; 10:19), and praying to others insults Him who ""ever liveth to make intercession for them" (Heb. 7:25).
4. We do not believe that she ws taken bodily to Heaven as there is absolutely no Biblical evidence to that.
5. We do not call her co-redempterous, as she is not, but was one who needed redemption herself.
The Bible expressly affirms that "all have sinned" (Rm. 3:23), "For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not" (Eccl 7:20), "And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified" (Psa 143:2), and when we have an exception to a major norm the Holy Spirit makes it clear, as it does regarding Christ, "who did no sin" (1Pt. 2:22), but which is not the case with Mary's sinlessness (and who required a Savior": LK. 1:47), but such requires reading ones desired interpretation into the text (eisegesis).

I believe that Mary was indeed a virgin when Jesus was conceived in her womb but I do not believe that she remained a virgin. The Bible says that she had other children.
Besides common sense should tell you that if Joseph and Mary were married then she could not possibly have remained a virgin.

Is it believe in , or like? Mary was a common maiden- that's it. Your beloved Catholic church has deified her and built up an entire false image of God as a result. As for liking her, I'm sure she was a very lovely, likeable, and humble woman. Stop making her into more than she was.

I believe protestants love Mary, they just believe she has been elevated to a position that is higher than she should be. After all, the bible says there is only one mediator between God and man, and that is Jesus Christ. So protestants don't believe in praying to Mary, or any other saint for that matter.

Protestants don't obey the bible like they say they do. Protestants don't call her 'Blessed.' Yet in the magnificat in Luke she says, "All generations will call me blessed." In their endeaver to avoid anything Catholic they trip over themselves and do not follow the scriptures.

She stopped being a virgin after she and Joseph had relations. She is, however, blessed among all women and the most privilege woman to ever have lived. She should be upheld and honored.
