I would like to send a care pkg to a friend of mines husband. He is in the marines and will be coming home in February. I have looked at several websites that tell what to send, but I was wondering if some of that stuff is already readily available to them? For example, one site suggested Oreos, but how do I know if that is something that they might have already. I have never been in the service and don't know how bad off it is. Do they not get regular supply of deodorant or is that a treat?

That's interesting, because one website said not to send homemade items? But I trust what you say, since you are in the military

I don't know about Afghanistan.. But in Iraq, they have a PX at almost every base now.. It's pretty much like a half a Walmart.. So deoderant, cookies, soda, etc... They have pretty much everything.. Things to get them would be something that is not a popular item. Like girl scout cookies, or peach soda, something along those lines..
I would suggest gag items like a whoopie coushin, gum that makes your teeth green, water balloons, squirt guns, etc.. It's surprising how much fun you can have with those items when you're soo dang bored..

Theres not much doubt, Oreos would create many more smiles than deodorant. Homemade cookies would score even higher.

Homemade choc chip cookies are always a treat and there's no such thing as too many of those. Actually dear lady, send nearly anything. It will certainly be appreciated no matter what it is. And thank you for caring. Signed: A Vet

You could send some deodorant to some of our coalition partner units.
Oops, did I say that out loud?
