What is a cult? Check out these somewhat boring but true definitions:
-A system of religious beliefs and ritual and its body of adherents/
-A particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
By definition anything from The Roman Catholic Church to The Baptist Church can be a 'cult'.
It's truly an ambiguous buzz word that also has negative connotations and definitions.
So what does the Book of Mormon REALLY teach? Apparently it teaches this:
"Behold I have given unto you my gospel, and this is the gospel which I have given unto you—that I came into the world to do the will of my Father, because my Father sent me."
And this:
"Now this is the commandment: Repent, all ye ends of the earth, and come unto me and be baptized in my name, that ye may be sanctified by the reception of the Holy Ghost, that ye may stand spotless before me at the last day." That's in 3 Ne 27:13 & 20.

Why most people dislike the mormon church, besides having to deal with them coming to your door like Jehovah's witnesses, is that the group deviated from mainstream Christianity and established it's own prophet system without confirmation of this new prophet's connection to God.
Things people don't like:
- Smith claimed to have been given gold plates, neither God nor an angel wouldn't give gold, it has no value spiritually. He gave Moses, a greater man, stone tablets, remember.
-Smith also claimed to have given back, lost, forgot the Gold Plates, which led people to believe that he was lying. He could not provide proof like all other prophets.
-Polygamy is against New Testament law at least, and there is no need for it. It is detriment to women.
-Some LDS groups act as separatists, are secretive and defy US law to the point where they hurt their own members (That Warren Jeffs.)
-The Brutal massacre of the innocent settlers who wouldn't convert to Mormonism (I think they made a sanitized movie version of the incident called September Dawn or something)
-The modern secrecy of the Mormon church, having temples that only certain people can see.
The problem with Mormonism, besides the controversy surrounding the founders, is it's secrecy. The church seems so intent on hiding their practices that they naturally incur the suspiction of everyone.
Mormonism also broke the key rule of Christianity, thus making them a new religion and not technically Christian.
The Bible says that there will be no more prophets until Christ returns and the Anti-Christ comes. Smith claiming to be a prophet means that he is going against the word of God.

People dislike, fear, etc. things they don't understand. I think LDS are wonderful, loving people, for the most part. There are HUGE differences between the LDS religion and mainstream Christianity. I can't even put it in a sentence. I have taken the discussions, been to Sunday meeting 2x, and a baptism. Oh Yeh! I went out to lunch w/ the RS one Saturday. They bought my lunch and it was great fun!I have no idea why someone would say you are devil worshippers. I'm sorry to hear that. How cruel! Anyway, I hope that helps. My church's website is upci.org, if you want to know more about me. God Bless!!!!

Most people have had a some sort of baggage caused by the mormon church. The missionaires coming to your door are just plain annoying, Mormons have very high recruitment rates but the worst retention rates, which means most people leaving soon after being baptised. My issue is, I was molested by my grandfather who was a very prominent member of the church and the bishop knew what he was capable of and did nothing. The worst thing is my story is very commen. In an effort to promote family togetherness, church leaders will often look away domestic violance and child abuse much the same way catholics did before the whole priest scandal. Mormons are going to have their house cleaning day soon.

Here is the problem, you don't give Jesus Deity. This is the very definition of Antichrist. Also, there was no other prophets after Jesus, Jesus was a prophet and much more. The next prophets will appear at the beginning of the Tribulation, then there will only be two. Smith is to Christianity, what Mohammed is to Judaism. Also adding to the Holy Scriptures after God has already exclaimed them to be finished, is apostasy. The truth is the list goes on and on. I beg you to get a good study Bible, and in fervent prayer, diligently study the Holy Scriptures, asking for understanding from the Holy Spirit.
God be with you child,
William, a bond-servant of Jesus

Ignorance , lack of love.
Though they believe themselves to be Christian, they have added a bunch of "doctrine" in their book to the word of God which contradicts the doctrines in the word of God, the Holy Bible.
Mormons are taught otherwise, and it is difficult to get them to understand the completeness of Christ and His work.
They define things differently, so discussion is difficult, the meanings they think are different.
So, because of these things, some that lack love but not knowledge may show a hatred.
Personally, I have been the target of unreasoning hatred from the members in the "stake" where I live.

I personally do not hate Mormons. I just believe that Mormons are misinformed about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon.
Jesus is the only Way, The only Truth, and the Only Life. No one comes to the Father but through Jesus.

I don't hate anybody. What I do hate is false teachings that leads a man to stumble. Joseph Smith was a farse. Run out of every town for unscruputious dealings. He made up his own books for his own edification. It is clearly written in the Bible anyone who adds to, or takes away from it, will be doomed. Rev 22:18 - 19. That is what Mormon is about.

because their corn is green and second rate and really, rather small...
But seriously, it is because they have been deceived, and have hardened their hearts to the truthfulness of the gospel. Because of the hardness of their hearts, they seek to make us miserable, hoping we will turn from the gospel [feeling a little bit of deja vu... something about the son of the morning rebelling, turning against God, falling from heaven and seeking to make all mankind miserable like unto himself]... Some do it because of the wicked and perverse traditions of their fathers --
