I seriously see nothing wrong with them naming the baby Christian. Having a child outside of marriage is not seen in the same light that it was 20 or 30 years ago. I think you are being hypersensitive about this because of your past.
My son's name means "dark one". We didn't pick it for what it means and there is nothing dark about him or us. LOL I wonder how many men you have met in your life who were named Christian, but because they go by Chris you have not known.
It is just a name.
On the upside, I know a couple who named their pretty, little baby girl "Akasha" from the Anne Rice novels. Akasha was once an Egytian queen who turned into the mother of all vampires. Be glad they aren't naming your grandson something crazy like that.
Good luck and best wishes.

Naming a child Christian doesn't mean the child has to go to church or even be Christian. I actually had a friend named Christian who was Jewish. Haha! I never even thought about the religious aspects of the name until this question. Anyway, as a fellow Christian I really think you should cool it. You don't have to go to church to have a belief in God. You can 'mess up' and sin but still have a belief in God and be forgiven. You can do many things and still have a belief in Him and His Son.
The meaning of the name Christian is Follower Of Christ. Believe it or not but a child can be born out of wedlock, never go to church, and be a follower of Christ. You need to leave the juding up to your God and the name up to your son's family.

There's nothing wrong with the name Christian doesn't matter what cirumstances the child is conceived in, if the parents want to name the child that then they're going too. Also what does going to church have anything to do with naming a child?

There is nothing wrong with using the name Christian. That is my grandson's name and we love the name. My son and daughter-in-law do not go to church and are not at all religious. My grandson is 8 years old and he does not like to be called Chris. It is only a name and I also know a girl named Christian.

You're actually casting a huge stone at the unborn child by dictating what his name should be. Did you ever consider that if his name is Christian, he may end up being more devoted to the faith than his father obviously is, and more than you obviously are too. The child is completely innocent, and he's God's creation. It's not for you to judge how he was conceived and its appropriateness.
Mind your business and be a grandmother.

It's inappropriate to name a child Christian if you don't go to church? I didn't get that memo, I'm sorry. What would be inappropriate is if they were serious Atheists who hated the very thought of Christ and then decided to name their child Christian. I doubt that is the case. It's not your child, therefore you don't have a say anyway.

I kind of like the name. The circumstances aren't really the baby's fault anyways, no reason to deny him a good name. I have a friend named Christian.

My religion stopped when my son passed away.. His name was Jerico.. and I believe that Christian would be a great name if that is going to make them happy.. a name does not make the person it is the person that will make the name... if that makes any sense to you...lots of luck.. Luke, John, and Paul and many more..

people are way too serious. it's just a name! let it be already. it doesn't necessarily have to be about the religion. i have never ever been to church in my life, nor am i planning on it, but i still don't see why naming it Christian is so bad.
