They can't spell.I've been to this website called "neopets/myspace" and the spelling is horrible.
They don't know anything.99% of students of Y!A don't know where Europe is.....
They are sensible.I often see posts of "OmFg,I'm Not SeeIng They MoviEz If TeH doG diez!11!!!"
I remember when I was 13 I used to buy "True Crimes"(a magazine from the 80's) that had pictures of dead babies......It made our generation strong.
What's wrong with todays youth? Is the average myspace/Y!A user the future of America?I think not......

"l33t-ism"
Funny term.Used to be used by people who had an IQ larger than their foot size until the "LOL!" people adopted it.

It's because education today is pretty lacking. Now abbreviations are simply a modern version of shorthand. Such as OMG or WTF. Which makes sense.

But I see what you mean about the spelling and grammar. I just turned twenty a few weeks ago and all my life, the general grammar (or lack thereof) has pained me. I cannot listen to most rap because it hurts SO bad.

Remember that it isn't all youth. There are a select few such as myself with an actual vocabulary.

Plus, look at the stuff out for kids today? It's like they want to baby them and teach them LEST so they don't go above anyone's head. Whereas, those who are beyond that learning are stuck there.

Now for kids we have 'Baby Einstein' which is complete ****. Want to know what the first thing I learned to read was (ignore the preposition at the end)? Reader's Digest. I didn't have factory-manufactured 'raise your kid' type things. I remembered the first 'large' word I learned to spell: enough (I was six, so give me a break).

Of course, every now and then, I'll misspell something or use something improperly. But I'm still educated despite the education system today.

It's all in the education, to be honest with you.

Sorry.

There's not enough positive role models for them, and in some cases, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Many of their parents are in the same rut and for some reason, they head down the same paths. Some are victims of their environment also, poor schools, unstable living, and no one to show them that they can be better than their situation.

They don't spell right because it's a type of short hand called AIM or txt and it is the most annoying thing in the world, I've seen people try to get away with using it in University level papers and profs do fail them every time. it's fine to use in cute little texts between friends but not in public forums. As for everything else, crappy parenting and education.

What's up with the spelling superiority? It's called chat speak. -.- Where did you get your "99% of students...who don't know where Europe is" from?
There's nothing wrong with today's youth, just like there's nothing wrong with l33t-ism.

Mainly bad parenting and the media. I'd rather not rant about it right now though.
