If you believe in one God by definition you are not believing in the other Gods. Big categories of God rejection that don't overlap between groups. It's impossible to make right. The moment that someone says 'But this is the one true God', their atheism is proved. We're all brothers and sisters. We all reject Gods. Some entirely and some to a degree...... All thoughts welcome. Namaste

Mesquite: you are strictly correct.
Job #1 is unseating the blinkered idealogues. I am just trying to expand on a seemingly impenetrable and single minded ideal.

NH Baritone: that's what I think. Nice way of describing it.

Unless of course all the gods are but one God. Could it be that everyone as just window dressed the one God? Making their gods fit their needs making it somewhat tangible. But was all this dressing up necessary? How do you describe a non-entity?
I once heard or read that the best way to discover God is to first become an atheist. I do not remember who said this. I wrote it off at first. I now realize how true it is. When you can remove all images and thoughts that have been placed on an entity; you can then know the true essence of a non-entity.
The problem of course comes from people worshiping dressing and not the true essence. They can not see that they all worship idols and graven images made in their own minds. Add to this unexplainable events and man-made events ascribed to this entity. The result is where we find ourselves. Fighting over the proper worship of a non entity that neither requires or desires such.

Below is a part of The Diamond Sutra to explain where my thoughts are coming from.

Every person is entitled to believe what ever they want. Of course your belief does not make it right or wrong. Now you can read something in a book, and that may just be someone's opinion. So just in case there is one true God of the universe, is this not reason enough to investigate. I have read a lot of books by former atheist, who after trying to disprove God, actually found God. " Eternity is too long to be wrong."

The·ism
belief in the existence of a god or gods; specifically : belief in the existence of one God viewed as the creative source of the human race and the world who transcends yet is immanent in the world

athe·ist
one who believes that there is NO deity

There is a vast difference between believing in NO god at all, or believing in One God or many "gods".

Mono-theism is One God
Poly-theism is many gods

There is only One God and no other...even though different people want to "believe" in other "gods".

I am a Christian and as such I believe in only One God by nature,....all other "gods" are false gods by nature, also known as idols.
But that in no way makes me an "atheist"..for they believe in absolutely NO "gods/God" whatsoever.

Hope that helps to clarify things for you.

Blessings!

I think it's hard to generalize with either of these categories. I know plenty of brilliant theists and atheists, and I've seen plenty of idiots in both camps on here.

I drove to work in my '98 Rabbit, and when i left work last evening and hopped into a BMW someone had left the keys in.

I didn't steal it. I drove my car to work. I drove a car home. It was still *a* car.

Just not *my* car.

But a car is a car, right? So, what's the difference?

Your car, my car, they're all cars!

And for so-called Grand theft auto, they want 20 grand in bail.

What a world we live in, huh?

(You got any cash you could lend me?)

Exactly. If you believe in just ONE god against all others, you are being atheistic to those other gods...

I believe that theistic Hindus (and some Buddhists) would consider all gods, even those they don't know of, eligible for inclusion in their pantheon. So a Hindu doesn't have to disbelieve in any God. They just disbelieve that one solitary God .
