Tell them you've found another church (if you have) with ministries that you feel God wants you to participate in. There isn't much they can say to that. If you don't have another church, simply say that you didn't feel the church was headed in the right direction. Elaborate if you wish, but otherwise, leave it at that. Sorry you had a bad expirience...

You have to tell them the truth.

I hate to see people lose their faith (for the wrong reasons).

My father told me once (I grew up Mormon):
"If you let the hypocrites get between you and God, then they're closer to God than you are."

I've always remembered that and to some degree, even in my agnosticism, I still try and live it... just from a different perspective.

Tell them the truth. See what they say.
It took me several tries until I found a church I was comfortable attending.

I would not worry about them being judgemental. Just be concerned about what God things of you not the other people. HE is your judge, not them. The bible says, judge not.

Instead of leaving, why not be an instrument of change? You at least should let them know. That behaviour destroys churches.

So, talk to them about it.
But I hope you have found a new spiritual home. It's important to find someplace you can stay.

Been there, done that. In fact I left religion altogether.
