How about just being honest and saying something like, "I hate this kind of thing, but I wanted to introduce myself." I know if you are shy it may be difficult, but you know what I love most in a man? Confidence; appearing self assured. So maybe if you are just honest about how awkward it is when meeting new people, you'll be a bit more relaxed and thus, appear more confident.

I know it's advice you've probably heard a million times, but honestly, just be yourself.

Be confident and believe in yourself! My husband is extremely shy. But he's also the sweetest man in the world. You shy ones are some of the best catches!

Good luck!

Don't try to be a stud, or seem too cool. Just find someone you think you might enjoy talking to, and say hello. Instead of trying to pick her up, just try to get to know her. Ask her about her life, her school, family, hobbies, favorite books, and listen. Women of all ages are more impressed by a guy who is genuinely interested in them than someone who seems like they are just trying to get picked up.

Where do you feel most comfortable? Football games? Bookstores? Bars? Cafe's? Try to meet someone with similar interests, and you will have something in common to use as an "opening line". For example, at a Barnes and Noble, you might see someone reading a book or author you are familiar with, and you can say how much you liked their work, and what does she think of it? At a ballgame, comment on a great play, or a bummer, or whatever. Use that as an opener. Then ask her how long she has been coming to games, her favorite teams, etc.

Yeah, I am a woman, and most women I know feel more comfortable with a guy who wants to start as a friend.

First of all take a good look at yourself--are you dressed appropriately for your age--neat clean clothes that fit well and really look good on you. Second--hair clean cut and washed. face and hands clean?? Brush your teeth--stand tall and walk up and say hello. Ask her if she has time for coffee and let her talk--be a good listener. Find out what she likes to do. YOU better have some stuff that is interesting to talk about, too.

Introduce yourself and ask her name (or if you already know) ask her anything that is polite and shows an interest. Or start off with a compliment that is genuine and not too personal. Specifically what to say will depend on your age and the place where you are meeting.

if you catch a girl staring at you. then just smile. or if you are feeling really daring even wink. she'll blush like crazy. it is unfortunate but that nice shy guys sometimes get overlooked. so you might want to make the first glance. and just walk over and say hey whats your name? lol you know.

Here's one that always works "Excuse me, I'm in the process of buying a new Corvette, and you look like a lady of dignity, taste and up-bringing, do you think Red, or should I go with the Yellow one?"

Hey, do I know you...you look like someone I knew in highschool.
when she says no, say that you had the bigest crush on that girl and shes brignin back good memories.

Hows your day going...Mine has been amazing!!!!

If you know them...talk about work or school or gossip. Then divert the subject to them.

Its as simple as saying hi or hello, that way there is no way she can give you a negative response, and if she does, then she's a *****, and she's not worth your time anyway. But a nice and simple greeting is the best way to go.

being straightforward would be the best option
try introducing yourself, then ask her something about herself like what does she do for a living or if she is in school etc
you will know by her reaction if she wants maintain the conversation or if she is just answering you to be polite.
