No you can't. The PS3 is broadband only. You can do two things to update since you don't have DSL or cable internet.

One, you can wait for a game with the latest update on it to come out and buy that. Once purchased and put into your PS3, it will update.

Two, you can go to this website:

http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Network/Updates

which is the official Playstation website and download the latest update. Save it to either a memory card of USB flash drive. To save upload it to your PS3, it has to first be in an UPDATE folder inside of a PS3 folder (i.e. (drive letter)/PS3/UPDATE). The folders must be in all caps.

Yes you can but it takes forever. You connect the ethernet cable that came with the ps3 to the computer ethernet port. Then run network setup on the ps3 and then run it on the computer ...On the computer you will need to goto network connects then select setup home network. When it asks if you computer connects directly to the internet selct that it does. THen when it asks you if other computers can connect to the internet through your computer say yes.

Since the ps3 will be on the internet for a long time getting the update turn the tv station the ps3 is displayed on to another station so you don't burn the screen...When the update is done downloading select install. THen select accept for license aggreement then the ps3 will install the update. THen the screen will go black for a couple of seconds or minutes depending when the last update was done then the ps3 will turn itself back off then it will turn itself back on. You do not touch any thing until it is done with that process. Be patient.

No, you can't use dial up Internet on the PS3 because the PS3 doesn't have a connection for a phone line in the back, it only has a ethernet connection in the back for connecting to the Internet.

Also, if you have the 40GB, 60GB, or 80GB PS3, you can connect to the PS3 by using WiFi.

You can just go to us.playstation.com and use your computer and save the update on a USB drive/SD card and put the USB drive/SD card in the PS3 and update it that way.

No because the port for the internet on the PS3 is for the Ethernet line not a plone line. But that was very thoughtful of you to even think about that.

You can download updates from the Playstation site, stick them on a memory stick and then copy them to your PS3.
