I don't think any true born again believer hates anybody.
There are many carnal christians who might reply to questions involving atheism in a way that might present them in that way, however I don't think it is a matter of hatred at all. It is a matter of being carnal and not spiritual in their life.
I don't think that it is a matter of respecting your opinion, but a matter of caring for your soul whether you do or not.
If God did not step into our lives we would all be atheist because of the natural man in us who does not understand or relate to the things of the Spirit of God.
I take exception with anyone who tells you or anyone else to just believe. I wish it was that easy, however it isn't. God must give you the faith to believe.
I do feel sorry for atheist because they are missing out in this life while on the earth having that wonderful peace, joy, communion, fellowship, instruction, guidance, companionship, confidence as well as many other blessings from God in the person of the HOLY SPIRIT. And I wish I could convince you as well as all atheist that what awaits you if you continue as you are is a most horrible fate. But I can;t. Only God can.
I can assure you that I just did not blindly believe.
I pray HE will do the same with you.
I do with much care and concern advise atheist to really examine their opinion and compare it with what the Bible says as well as what nature declares and many others throughout the ages have declared.
This is the most important issue in your entire life as there are too many scriptures in the Bible which indicate to me that if you die in this condition you will regret for all eternity being an atheist.

Some people are insecure and they need to hate those who dissent from them and there are atheists like this as well as Christians and other types of theists.
A real Christian does not hate anybody.

Most hate is driven by fear. Fear that you might teach their kids something that they do not believe in. Fear that you might be right. Fear that somehow your belief system will spread and cause the Christians to be persecuted.
I am a Christian and I don't hate atheists. I feel if you have made an informed choice.... then go with it. It is YOUR decision to make. I don't agree with it but then I don't have to.

We do NOT hate YOU, we hate your BELIEFS! Some of MY friends happen to be athiests. Do I like it? No. But, "hate" is a strong word. We do strongly dislike those of you who diss our beliefs (www.myspace.com/mussman717, view video). Then we go all Old Testament on your *** with all that "eye for an eye" jazz. lol. Besides, you can't neglect the simple fact that most of these arguments are started by ignorant, loud-mouthed, obnoxious athiests who give people like you a bad name. You know the guys I'm talkin' about. Anyway, you guys are misrepresented because of them people. It's just like Christians are misrepresented by the Jehovah's Witnesse--- er, um... uh-oh. Now, I got myself in another argument. See ya when I'm allowed back on here. lol. And, God Bless You!!!

Probably because the term is associated with persons who exhibit an intense hostility/ hatred toward christianity. People who are merely non-religious do not generally exhibit such sentiments. That's why christians don't flame out at agnostics the way they do at atheists. Plus, the atheists on R&S are often incredibly rude. They basically come on line just to bait people.

An Excellent question. The answer is simple. A true Christian does not hate.
1 John 3:14b-15
"He who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him."
Anyone who calls them self a Christian, yet insults and attacks others of different beliefs does not truly know the Lord.

I don't hate atheists. I wish my beliefs could be respected. Do you know how tired I am of being called stupid, and moronic, because I believe in God? I have a collections of the most hateful insulting things sent to me just because I believe. For the record, I have never told anyone they are going to hell. I have never told any one to just believe.

They fear that which they do not understand.
To them, not believing in a supreme being is unthinkable. When they realize that there are those of us out there who live perfectly happy, healthy lives without the involvement of something we don't believe in, on a spiritual level, they start to question whether or not we just might be right.....

As a Christian, I respect your athiestic beliefs. Moreover, I am knowledgable about what athiesm implies and the ideas behind such beliefs. It would be stupid for me to believe in God if I did not critcally analyze all theological ideas and premises for truth. If I did not, I would be ignorant, incapable of defending my beliefs, and cause others to reject my ideas based on my hypocrisy. Such blind faith makes many Christians seem stupid. As it is often said, "The greatest cause in athiesm in the world today is Christians who make acknowledgies with their lips but deny it by their lifestyle." I refuse to be labeled in this category. Don't get me wrong, I have done hypocritical things, but I always seek forgiveness and try to correct my wrongdoings to those who I offend.
I reject your ideas, but I respect your views acknowlegding the premise that God gave you the freewill to reject Him. Instead of telling you to "just believe," they should offer to engage you in a respectful debate based on evidence and truth.
Noone can force you to believe anything as this would be ideological rape.
Agree to disagree. Yet, never sacrifice truth for tolerance of any and all behavior.

It's funny that you use the word "hate" because isn't it preached that you should love everyone, so according to what they preach, I guess this means all Christians who are hating are gonna go to hell aren't they? LOL! But you are correct, they need to respect your beliefs just as they expect you to respect theirs.
