Considering that you eat halal, and defend the practise by claiming it is in the interests of animal welfare, why not avoid the risk and simply go vegetarian?

Please note, this isn;t an attempt to debate halal; I have already debated this until I am blue in the face. I just don;t understand why, if animal welfare is paramount, a vegetarian/vegan diet isn't a better bet than halal. neither is this a bias against Muslims ratgher than Jews, as Ihave already discussed ritual slaughter with Jews as well.
As far as I know there is no Koranic obligation to eat meat. Surely then, instead of going for halal, cutting out meat altogether would be better? Apparently animal welfare was of great importance to the Prophet, peace be upon Him, and some have suggested he abstained from meat. A vegetarian diet is also better for our planet, which would surely be in keeping with Islamic concerns for the environment?

If you did not know it already, Muslims can eat pork, but only in certain extreme situations.

Avoiding meat in general has nothing to do with Islam. The Islamic dietary injunction is simply to avoid pork. The reason for Muslims to eat meat is the same as for anyone else: it is nutritious, provides complete proteins, and provides other necessary nutrients which are not supplied by a vegetarian diet.

halal way of slaughtering the animal allows for toxins to leave the body by draining its blood. It also minimizes the suffering of the animals...they barely suffer....and i think going vegetarian is a bit extreme
