Jesus did not specify.....he wasn't really talking about building your real house on a rock, he was teaching a parable. He meant that the wise man builds his house on the strong and steady rock of God, so to speak.

I was born on Mission Hill
The parable is a story that calls us to spiritual decision
Jesus is the rock and the faith and office of his Church is also the rock(you are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church)
The arroyo or wadi where the house should not be built is the easy but shifting lifestyle that courts disaster.

Jesus is the Rock. He who builds his life upon Jesus and His teachings and does them will be able to stand but the fool who builds it on sand (anything but Jesus) and not obey Jesus will fall with a great fall.

Crack sucks, it is for mentally challenged people who do not know there are better drugs out there for the money. But as for a rock for a Faith Foundation, Jesus Christ is the only way.

Yes, the rock is the never changing basis of the entire universe... the "Great I Am"... the light of Life. And as a child of God, everyone has that eternal resouce within themselves.
And thanks for quoting something from the Original Gospel. It's rather refreshing to see it.

As has been widely expressed by many here recently, that Jesus is referring to himself here. Only Jesus is the Rock. So you should build your house on Jesus, it's metaphorical.

Jesus is the Rock.
He is the chief cornerstone, a firm foundation.
Anything other than Jesus is just sand, or worse, a deceitful rock, like shale.
