Asking again with yet another verse. The verse below tells us if we overcome our name will not be blotted out of the book of life. Doesn't this seem to say that if we do not overcome our name will be blotted out? If our name is in the book of life we are saved. However this verse talks about blotting out names in it. If your name is blotted out of the book of life wouldn't you no longer be saved?

Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Some people point to Revelation 3:5 as “proof” that a person can lose his salvation. However, the promise of Revelation 3:5 is clearly that the Lord will not erase a name: “He who overcomes . . . I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life.” An overcomer is one who is victorious over the temptations, trials, and evils of this world—in other words, one who is redeemed. The saved are written in God’s registry and have the promise of eternal security.

I used to hold to the view of losing salvation and I appealed to this verse in the same way you are asking about here. The truth is though the opposite of the verse is not necessarily true. It simply says overcome and I will not blot out your name. It all comes down to the basis of why any christian overcomes (by being grafted to the vine, and the indwelling holy spirit, or by their own effort). I believe the latter. I think people read John 10 "No one can take them out of my hand" and then parenthetically add but you can walk out of his hand...that is not what that verse says. You also just need to go with what the verse says, and not inadvertently read into it. There are many verses in the new testament that also use the phrase If you continue...the nuance in the greek is "if and it is so" that you continue more clearly translated since. I understand this is a contentious issue and I'm just offering my thoughts...take them, ignore them...not trying to be pushy here.

What I have discover in study of this issue is that to believe in OSAS one cannot reconcile their belief in the context of the body of Scripture. This verse is just one of those verses that point out that fact. Such a doctrine is just not consistent with the Body of Scripture. However, to believe in the possibility of one who comes to faith not being able to endure, for whatever reason, is consistent and reconcilable within the body of Scripture without contradiction. To support OSAS one must ignore most of Scripture to the contrary . It is absolutely an untenable conclusion for the serious biblical scholar to reach and is, in fact, a modernist heresy promoting antinomianism.

you took it out of context.
It's telling the people that they must repent, if they do this and overcome, they will be not be blotted out.
He's comparing them to the people who are already "saved"

here's the whole verse

" 1"To the angel[a] of the church in Sardis write:
These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits[b]of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. 3Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you. 4Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. 5He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels. 6He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."

He's telling the church at Sardis that they must repent, but that some have already repented. The ones who repented will walk with Christ. If they repent, they will join them.

perhaps a better theology would be "even if you lose faith in God, He hasn't lost faith in you" that's what that verse seems to show.

They can be blotted out..

Exodus 32:31-33
31 So Moses went back to the LORD and said, "Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold.

32 But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written."

33 The LORD replied to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out of my book.

Of course, you can lose it. Matthew 24:13 says, "he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved."
So, our endurance and actions must be continuous.
If we look at verse 12, it says "the love of the greater number will cool off." May our love never cool off so that we never lose God's favor!

you CAN lose your salvation. a heresy that many know today says you lose some reward in heaven but not your salvation, its rubbish, what if u run out of reward anyway?

another illogical argument is: its a free gift so how can i lose it.... you can lose it very easily, this lie causes Christians to think they can get away with sin when that ain't the case at all.

When you are faithful, your name will not be erased from the book of life. It is like VIP party, you need to let Him know that you are coming and He takes your word of it.
