Air Force is good if you join the active duty or the reserve. The national guard beats to their own drum and if you need the regulations followed when it comes to being injured or needing something done, then you want an organization that will follow the regulations whether they like it or not. The national guard in my state seem to make up the rules as they go with no accountability. And that is at the VERY top.

Otherwise go to basic in good shape, if you smoke quit, and if you don't drill with a reserve unit before you go to basic it will be tough but nothing you can't handle. Just remember if you feel anxious or embarrassed about something, so are others. Do what you are told by your drill instructors I think they call them in the Air Force TI's technical instructors. They are truly professionals and are accountable and will not steer you wrong. Other than setting you up for failure in doing things you can't get done in the time allotted just remember it is their job to make your life stressful at basic in your transformation from Joe undisciplined civilian to disciplined war fighting machine. They don't have time to pussy foot around. They get you, make your life miserable, you go with what ever flow they give you, and I think 10 weeks now you come out a changed, honorable, well disciplined, head held high chest out, respectful individual. That in the end is priceless.

Good luck.

The Force is a good job. I have 17 years in and I do not regret it. But like any job it has it good and bad aspects. It takes you away from family but at the same time you get to see places you never would if you stayed at home. It may not pay as much as the same type of job in the civilian world but they take care of you and you will always have a place to live and food to eat and money to get the things you want and need. Yes you are in the military and have many bosses but you have the same on the outside. You cant tell your boss in the civilian side to go to hell just like you cant here. Same in both. It's a job like any other. The Air Force treats their people better than the other services...some places overseas...have all services there....Air Force people live in dorms and have resteraunts and chow halls....Army and Marines live in tents and eat MREs. Not all the time..Im just saying that everyonce in a while...things like that happen. The Air Force is more of a proffesion and the others are more of a trade. All are good and we should be thankful for them. But if you are making a decision about your life you should be well informed. Find a recruiter, dont let them bully you, dont sign anything until you are ready and be firm about joining with a gauranteed job. Security Police sounds cool...but not after you've been standing outside in the cold for 12 hours...a medical job is a good way to go...and you can use it when you get out or retire.
Basic training is easy. Not as physically demanding as the others. It's more mental...they yell and treat you like a child but it's just to make everyone feel the same and make you lose alot of the civilian mentality. Lots of memorizing names/military information and folding uniforms and making beds and marching. Not bad at all. And once you graduate, you're treated a lot better. No comparison to the other services. It's a good life...there are a lot worse jobs to have and it's something you can be very proud of. Good luck!

I am in the Air Force. Well as a trainy you will have it rough and might find it almost like torture. But it is for a reason and don't take it personally, the sarge is doing his job and that is to make it hell for you. You will get your chance to do that if your in long enough. The AF is the easiest of the branches to get thru training but it is the hardest to make rank higher than E-5 or E-6. Chances of being in a combat zone will be up to the job you choose. I am an aircraft electrician and haven't had to go to the desert yet but that don't mean I won't go and there a lot of us there.

Try to go to basic durring the early Spring because Texas gets awful hot in the summer and is surpisingly cold in the middle of winter. You can make it a lot easier thru training if you act like you want to be there and not act like someone they are trying to weed out. Good luck

I was in the AF for 22 years and really enjoyed it. My first suggestion is to get a guaranteed job before you sign up. The second would be pick a field that you can use when you get out or retire. Like I said I really enjoyed my time in the AF. I was in intelligence (not very useful when you get out unless you want to go to Washington D.C.) and really enjoyed it. As far as Basic Training goes, don't worry about it, it's not that bad. Just start working out before you go, so it's not as hard. If you don't like the job you are in, you can retrain at the end of your enlistment if you reenlist. Always remember that liking an assignment in mostly on you. If you stay positive and try as hard as you can, you will love it. There are tons of opportunities in the AF. I have had exposure to all the services, and have always thought the AF was the best. They treat all their people allot better then any of the other services.

Good luck and enjoy yourself!

Have you ever had a regular job? If so then that is what the air force is like. Oh they also might ask you to do a 3 month combat tour but the bases the air force are stationed at in iraq are just as nice as any overseas base.

hi! i'm entering into the path of the top same concern as you would be in December. My boyfriend purely left for elementary training in San Antonio,TX this previous Monday for 6 a million/2 weeks and that i'm able to't consult with him or something. it is particularly hell precise now. he's going for Air site visitors administration. we've spent each and every minute jointly for the previous 2 years and now, 0. massive exchange. we are making plans on getting married precise after he gets completed with tech college which would be in approximately 4 months. Then i'm going to circulate down with him probable after Christmas. i will college complete time precise now for nursing and that i would be waiting to circulate into the nursing application at in spite of school i circulate to it is close to to the place we live. by using the time I circulate with him i could desire to have all of my situations completed for nursing college so all I could desire to do is stumble on a school the place they're going to all circulate. i do no longer probable understand a good purchase with regard to the air rigidity, i understand, notwithstanding, that i like my boyfriend very lots and in case you love somebody, you will stick by using them no count how annoying it is. purely look at it as having fairly some trip trips in case you adult men do get married and stay jointly after he completes elementary training. It particularly particularly sucks nevertheless whilst they circulate away for elementary. I even have theory approximately my bf non end because he left monday.

I made it and that is saying a lot. word to the wise, buy the best running shoes you can afford. I was pretty amazed at how fast I toned up in basic training. It's going to be longer and more difficult beginning in January 08. My niece is serving now. You'll do fine.

My biggest regret is leaving. I'd be retired now, collecting at least 2 checks and in much better health. In basic. you run a lot and get tired. That's about it. AF lives better than most people in this world, even if they joke about it.
