Actually, scientology is not a religion. It may be POSING as a religion, but in fact it is only a business. The Church of Scientology convinces people that in order to be a part of their "Religion" and be a member of their "Church", one must pay not only an application fee, but from what I've heard, continual fees for membership as well, which do not go towards charity or the greater good of humanity like the optional donations of even some other religions, but rather towards keeping the Church of Scientology going, and keeping it's promotion up so that they'll continually get notice. I'm also told that in order to advance to the next level in the religion, each time, one must pay an additional fee. They may claim to be in it to "help people". However, for all their supposedly wonderful advice on how to live life and information of what they believe makes up the fabric of society, religious advancement and belonging to a church is not, in fact a matter of how much money you donate, it's a matter of your level of knowledge and experience in the different aspects of said religion. Therefore, though Scientology may be a way of life, it is not a religion by definition, espescially considering there are Scientologists claiming to be from all kinds of different religions, and people do not usually claim to belong to more than one in common practice.
The Church of Satan, in reference to Anton LaVey's creation, makes a lot more sense to me, but I believe it's still only one piece of the Satanic Puzzle, though it may be a new piece, which mankind must reassemble after said Satanic Puzzle having been torn apart Aeons ago. Sure, you can believe in allowing yourself pleasure, knowledge and strength, and that humans are in fact "Gods of the Earth", but I at least cannot deny that Satan is more than just a concept representing the forces of darkness and what the ideal Satanist should embody. I believe he is also a sentient, divine being or deity (I don't use the word "God" because that reminds me of Yahweh/Jehovah, who was destroyed by Father Satan, signaling the start of, or at least the first step in enabling the future Aeon of Lucifer in which we live. In a general sense, I think there is wisdom to be learned from nearly every form of Satanism, and that regardless of our exact beliefs as Satanists, if we wish to survive the NEXT attack on our civilization, we must ALL band together in the fight for our common Satanic interests and goals. Therefore, I believe that though there is much wisdom written in LaVey's Satanic Bible, it is only one aspect of a much larger school of thought, older than time itself and from what those scholars who dare to present these findings are saying, was man's original religion in the start of the Pagan tribes when man was created. I personally subscribe to the Spiritual Satanic theory and belief that it was indeed Father Satan, not God, who created mankind. I believe that He created us with the capability to become even more Godlike than we are at birth, and that when ordered to destroy us because we were no longer useful to God, Satan said in so many words, "Bend over!", and THAT was the source of the "falling out" between Yahweh Jehovah and Satan Lucifer. The Angels sided with God, the Demons with Satan, and the two went their seperate ways. The rest is history as far as I'm concerned.

Final summation:
Scientology = Fraud "religion" which is actually by definition a business.
LaVey Satanism = One piece of the "Satanic Puzzle" which will, when completed, eventually lead mankind to even higher levels of greatness and Godhood than we have yet achieved.

That's my Satanic Two-Cents, do with it what you will...

Ave Satanas!

Well the Church of Satan founded by Anton Szandor Lavey is straight up with no B.S. It's all right there in Lavey's books. One dose not need to be a member of the Church of Satan or be a member of the First Satanic Church founded by Karla Lavey to be a Laveyian Satanist.

All Satanism is more realistic than Scientology.
Ronald Hubbard was more of a con man than Anton Szandor Lavey.

I think Scientology is a scam. Satanism I have some direct exposure to because someone close to me is involved with it. My perception is that Satan being just a nature symbol or not, it developed largely as a backlash to Christian control and hypocrisy. La Vey borrowed heaviely from Ayn Rand in his ideas, among other people. The Satanist I know and others I have seen are vehement athiests (although it gets a bit confusing since some practice ritual magick--they just don't acknowledge God)
They don't worship anyone or anything, but are into unlimited self-indulgence and hedonism. Well you know what, this has all been done and said long before La Vey came along. The most important day for a La Vey Satanist is their birthday, because they believe they should be their own gods, that the Self is most important.
Well I think that is just a backlash to the self-denial demands placed on one in Christianity. Many of the Satanists I know happen to be former Catholics. I don't think that is a coincidence. They swung from being a self-denying Catholic with extra guilt heaped on them to swinging in the polar opposite direction!
Having an on/off relationship with one for several years has been interesting to say the least. It all comes down to wanting to make his own rules and expecting others to play by his rules while indulging in pure selfishness when it comes to the needs of others. And I find that attitude to be both why he is attracted to this specific religion, and the religion itself is an influence on his perceptions and world view.
He also just loves the dramatic rituals, which I find to be a little overdone. Alas, when one's dark side is repressed so long, they will find a way to unleash it. When human nature is suppressed, it will need an outlet somewhere else.
Hence this religion's popularity with adults, in addition to silly teenagers.
However there are a few positive Satanic principles which include treating the people you love well, being responsible, not rewarding the weaknesses of others etc.
I put a link to the Church of Satan here.

Havent tried satanism. But as a religion it seems like it has all of the requirements. After all, doesnt accepting that christianity is a religion kindof require accepting that satansim is a religion? Not the one true religion maybe, but a religion none the less.

As for scientology, I have tried that one. And its rather weak as a religion. Not for reasons that so many "knowledgeable" posters here put. I never saw any indiciation of alien worship. :)

But their Sunday services were too non-denominational. Too generic. Wishing well for people in natural disasters, asking for canned food, asking for used clothing, asking people to help on disaster teams. No rituals, no sermon, no condemning others. They didnt even pass a plate. (they only charge for the self-help courses)

Sorry to correct you, but Scientology has been thoroughly demonstrated to be a cult.

An overview of Scientology (in my own words):

Is Scientology a cult? Yes, & this is why:

My opinion on Scientology is that it's a greedy, manipulative, dangerous, lying, bullying, scamming operation.

My opinion on Satanism? I don't have much of one. From what little I know about it, they espouse decency and kindness while also making sure to take care of themselves first and foremost. I may be mistaken because, again, I haven't taken the time to take an in-depth look at it.

first off satanists dont believe in the christian satan. it is not a diety but something that manifests within themselves. calling satanists evil is like calling muslims evil. just because they are misunderstood does not make them bad ( and no they dont sacrifice animals). satanism is a religion that focusues on the individual not so much the group. it can come across as spiteful at times but overall the message is positive. it just tends to have a bad rap.

scientology however is more a cult than a religion. it milks practitioners for money and tries to destroy any negative publicity. ie one of the only movies banned in the US is one that critisized this religion. scientology was based on manipulation and greed and not to mention its clearly a load of crap.

the two are as different as night and day.

Is there not in ordinary terms one church? Nope, because of the fact there are irreconcilable doctrinal disputes between denominations. The Catholic Church claims papal authority to interpret scripture and carry forth guy-made custom as "divinely stimulated". Baptist doctrine counters with "priesthood of the believer". Multiply that one distinction by each and every of the concerns of ethical sense on which the Bible can somewhat be study distinctive techniques. On a number of those changes, congregations can and could merely conform to disagree; yet on others, they define the very character of worship amenities, coaching ministry, and missions. A fundamentalist hell-fearing Biblical-literalist Pentecostal will not be happy with what I tutor their little ones in Sunday college, and vice versa. i recently began attending church lower back after some 2 many years of solitary bible learn and easily attempting to stay the "good neighbor" commandment known. My ideals are totally-developed on doctrinal matters like same-intercourse marriage equality, abortion, and priesthood of the believer. All that's left is concerns of flavor like worship song, and the enthusiasm of the pastor. I got here up with a liberal Presbyterian church very close to to homestead. i'm not delighted with the gospel-rock yet i truly like the pastor, so I merely may well be accomplished procuring for a church that appears like homestead. desire your seek ends a minimum of as thankfully as mine, God bless!

Scientology is far more evil and dangerous.
Also more profitable.
LeVey probably wishes he'd have thought of it first. You can't build that large and controlling a cult around Satanists. It'd be like herding cats.

I think Laveyan Satanism is a bit silly, but probably harmless.

Scientology, on the other hand, is quite dangerous. They will ruin your life in any way they can just to get your money and have you working for them.
