Four inventions, which not only moved humanity forward greatly, but defined their era until the next invention.

The invention of agriculture/animal domestication, which allowed humans to form civilization and abandon their hunter gatherer lifestyle.

The printing press/moveable type, which allowed the collected knowledge of man to truly disseminate, ending the reliance on oral tradition. While books were written for centuries, it was not until this discovery that enabled multiple copies of stored information to be quickly and cheaply distributed.

The steam engine, which facilitated quick transportation and fabrication of goods, raising the quality of life for millions of people and thereby allowing population growth from this point onward to exponentially grow.

Finally, the transistor, which is the key invention that opened the door to all modern electronics, computers, and the internet.

Technology.
Has changed our lives forever - generally for the better.

You don't have to spend the many hours necessary -
to feed yourself, clothe yourself, house yourself, etc etc.

You do have lots of spare time (generally?) to think about other matters - like what are you really here for?
How to fix up the things technology hasn't completely solved yet - like pollution, high energy bills, etc etc.
