I hate it when this happens as i am Catholic the difference is that catholics have a head of church aka the Pope. During the renaissance some ministers had the belief that people should be able to worship with out a set routine or hierarchy, or that people can be forgiven by there local priest during confession. in those day unfortunately forgiveness cost coin before a priest would assign a penance. this led to what we have today the different types of Christianity, catholics and Greek orthodox , and the protestant religions, which is every Christian that isn't catholic or Greek orthodox. not to mention that catholicism is 1 of the oldest Christian denominations. hope this gives you some insight into our world oh and by the way the 1 difference that the majority of people think that there is is not true we do not worship the virgin mary.
oh and i am also middle eastern and my family has lots of friends who are Muslim but have Christian wives and vice versa. you can date who u want and marry who you want but you must remember that you can not ask them to change there faith for you. anyway i actually believe that Christian Muslims and Jews worship the same god. since Abraham is the father of all 3 religions. and we seem to have some of the same holy place.

The Christian denominations broke away from the Catholic teachings in order to do "what they wanted" instead of following the proper teachings as handed down by Christ. It was for their own comforts and lifestyle - man-made. I am happy you are inquiring about the difference instead of going ahead blinded and following this or that in terms of comments. Continue to search for the right answers by reading more on the history of Christianity and the Church (including Orthodoxy) and you will deepen your own knowledge and faith. Experience helps too! I say this to counter-act the insult you received on the message board - it is a blessing when someone crops up to ask a question, not a bother coming from an ignorant person.
We ALL have questions at one time or another and were not born filled to the brim with knowledge. We are here to help each other. Dating those of other faiths does help, however in terms of marriage it can be a plus when raising children in a more unified and harmonious environment - all centered in God. Sometimes when children grow up and are possibly faced with choosing a faith from a mixed marriage, they can feel as though they are hurting one parent and it can lead to pain, guilt and jealousies too.

What's the difference between automobiles and Chevy's? Catholics ARE Christian. But there are lots of other BRANCHES of Christianity, which have split off FROM that Church. People love to make up artificial differences where there are none naturally. The basics of Christianity are well known, and don't change from one Christian religion to the next. It's just the stubbornness of mankind that makes things hard for the rest of us.
Dating without marriage in mind is hazardous because it can make you vulnerable to sin. But we DO have free will you know...

Catholic is the largest, oldest and fullest and ,IMPExperience, the truest subset of Christianity.

Are you asking the difference between the Catholic Christian and the Christian Church (Cambellite?
The Catholic Church was started by Christ and founded on Peter
the Christian Church Cambellite was founded in the early 19th century by Alexander Cambell to end Protestant divisions by 'speaking when the Bible speaks and by being silent when the Bible is silent" but the movement only created more Protestant denominations of the Restorationist subtradition.

I know many ecumenical and interfaith marriages that are successful when both parties communicate, seek to understand each other and dedicate themselves to each other.

2 Corinthians 6:14

how can two walk together unless they agree? Amos 3

can Islam and Christian agree on their beliefs AND ministry?
I have a brother-in-law and his wife, he is Christian, she is Catholic. They rarely agree on anything, he ultimately gives in to her whim. Relationship vs. Tradition. That is Christianity vs. Catholicism.

Not all Catholics are like that. Some are very affectionate for Christ. But most follow the tradition and papal teachings of their doctrine MORE than the Bible. Too many differences.

We are told we are not to be unequally yoked ... that is, don't marry someone that you don't fit with ... thus, marrying out of ones religion causes strife, because they don't have the same belief system.
Catholics engage in practices that are blatantly idol worship...in direct opposition to God's law. And you don't want to get me going on about proving the Catholic Church meets the criteria of the "Great Whore"...so, I'll go on.

As for only dating if one is looking for a spouse, this practice ensures that we do not place ourselves in the position of falling into sexual temptation. Because a sin involving sex violates your body (and your body is God's Temple), it is a violation against God's Temple...a personal affront against God Himself.

That isn't to say you shouldn't date when trying to select a life's partner; it's just no dating for the sake of having a good time, playing the field, etc.

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/index.htm

With love in Christ.

Well the difference between an organ transplant and cannibalism is that in one case you're eating someone else. Pretty simple. And yeah I guess if you want to you can call us cannibals. We really do believe that the bread is truly His body. But we don't think of it as cannibalism. We didn't kill Him and chop Him up and roast Him over a fire.

Catholics are Christians and always have been. It was the protestant reformers who broke with the Catholic Church. The reformer invented a new religion rejecting many of the teachings of the original church Christ founded - the Catholic Church.

It's got nothing to do with religion. It's what being teached behind the pulpit.Catholics teach false doctrine such as ; 1-the pope- no verse states we are to have a pope.2- Pray to Mary- Mary is dead andin Heaven but she in no way is our meditor to God - Jesus holds that title.3- no where does it tell us to confess our sins to a Preist- we are to confess our sins to God and him alone.4-you don't earn your salvation- Catholics have Cathism too earn salvation. No biblical at all.
5- They still have Jesus on the cross and he came down off that cross a long time ago.6-They are the ones who take onced saved always saved and make it like I can do what I please and just go to confession and I am ok.Wrong bible says nothing about living like the devil , partying then go to church and sing oh how I love Jesus on Sunday morning. I could go on and on but I tihkn you get the differences! Catholics need to repent and get their hearts right with God and stop making up their own rules as they go along- and do what the word of God requires us to do!

The bible says not to be unequally yoked !
