You need to take him to a GP for preliminary tests and let him advise you

If he doesn't live with you and you say you don't see him that often, then you need to start making enquiries to who ever he does stay/live with as to whats happening with his hearing, and have they encountered any problems.

Is it his hearing, though or is he just 'switching off' sometimes that happens at 10 years old.

Try waiting till your on your own with him, without his brother around, and when his back is turned, say quietly, " there's an envelope, with a fiver in it, on the table in the kitchen just for you, if your interested",( not forgetting to give the same amount to his brother) if there's no reaction, then yes, he may have a problem, and a serious one at that, so it needs attention.

If he's messing around, you still have problems, but it's more of a communication one between you and him, and one that needs just as much attention.

Hope this helps

If you think there is a health problem with any of your kids you should get them checked. Parents know best. Good luck

on a funny note

My 15, 13 and 11 year old all have hearing problems, but once I turn the TV/psp's/Internet off and threaten them with extra chores if they don't listen, then their hearing comes back its amazing. Another good one, rattle some sweet paper behind them.
I done that to my now 11 year old when he was 3, he had a hearing problem but it rectified it self thank goodness.

Talk to the school nurse and get a referral to a specialist for a hearing test. If he tests within normal range, then he is ignoring you.
If he insists of ignoring you, get rid of the cable TV and internet access and you will surely get his attention!
