Our sweet dog is 16 years old now and just can't seem to hold her bladder for much time at all. Other than her accidents, she's as spry as a puppy. Do doggie diapers work? If she makes it outside without wetting, do I take them off and let her relieve herself outdoors...to keep some of her doggie dignity? She often tries to make it outside, but will have an accident before we get out the door.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

Poor old gal. But wow, you must have taken great care of your dog :) She sounds happy and I'm sure she has a great life! Some people put their dogs down because they can't put up with the urine, even if the dog is otherwise healthy.

The diapers do work but definitely take them off outside so she can have some time without them, and so she has a chance to go herself in a normal way. Usually you put a pad into them to absorb the urine so make sure you change it frequently.

What breed/size is your dog? I have a large breed female 70lbs and I haven't been able to find premade doggy diapers that fit and are comfortable for her to wear. So I decided to make my own out of fleece material and iron on velcro. I put a sanatitary napkin inside and this works great as you can pull it off quickly to go outside and it is easy to put back on. It also fits well and stays in place and is comfortable for her to wear while in the house. Not to mention that it is inexpensive and washable.
