The Parachute Regiment is a full on Infantry unit and they are the best type we have. If you fit in well you will be made for the Armed forces, however don't think it will be a walk in the park. You will have to do at least a couple of years in regimental life before you even get a sniff at the SAS, you need to learn the basics before you get onto the more interesting side of the Armed forces.

You must be a bit nuts to be a good SAS soldier I reckon.
That aside. Don't shun the idea of the wife or girlfriend completely. Being successful in the army is not only about the being a soldier. You will also be rated on how balanced you are. And a lot is perception I must add. They want to see a good soldier, an academic to study all that their is to know, a sportsman on the regiments team and a good socialiser at functions - where you might need a women on your side unfortunately.
And if you are a good soldier with all the other attributes required you might just attract a suitable women that will fit in with your lifestyle. Women do join the army, navy etc. and are quite adapt at what they do I might add. The army will be accommodating in many aspects for a couple IMHO.
When you've completed you active bit and progress further to staff/ rank/ overseas... the wife bit might crop up again. Especially the higher you go.
If you choose not to engage with a women, just let everybody know (especially the ones advancing you career) your reason so they don't worry about you being a nut case or other wise and that you are committed to you chosen unit and career path.

Being female and a wife & mother I am obviously not in your position. However to answer your question, no you are not a nutter. I think the 'nutters' are those who get married and have children without thinking it through properly and making sure it is what they want and that they can cope with the financial and emotional implications. Marriage and children are not for everyone. Just ignore those that are too narrow minded to respect your views.
You sound focussed and dedicated...Good luck in your chosen career.

My son is in the same position as you eventually want to be. Only he joined a different regiment to the one you wish to enlist with.
He's 28 and single with no immediate intentions of marrying or having children. His reasoning is simple - he does not want to leave a widow, dependent on this Government and it's treatment of war widows, if the worst happens
Is he a nutter? No way, he is a cool, calm, calculating individual which makes him so good at his chosen "speciality".
Good luck to you.

Good luck, its a lot of hard work and some times its important to have somebody to come back for. Not being married will make your commitment easier however remember that at the end of your time you need something else in your life.
Ja.

Good luck, it will certainly make training and being on duty easier for you without wives and children. You have plenty of time for that afterwards in life
