OK, im filling out an application to GameStop. This is my first ever application to fill out and it says:

List 2 references below that we may contact who are familiar with your work performance. Use personal reference, (Not Relatives), only if you have no employment references.

So what I'm asking is, what does that mean? Do i put my mom and dad as references? Or do i put friends?

What part of "not relatives" did you misunderstand?

You must be young. In high school? Try asking a couple of your teachers for references. They are used to it, and are usually happy to do it for anyone who is a decent student, who is not a discipline problem. (You don't have to have straight A's to get a good reference from a teacher!)

Don't put your parents, or any other relatives, or your friends. Since you haven't had a job before you don't have work references. But put a couple teachers who knew you well, or a coach or pastor or youth group leader or scoutmaster if you have one.

Talk to the people you are going to put down though before you turn in the application, and ask if you may use them as references.

Mom and dad are relatives, so do not list them as references. List adults who are not relatives. Consider using the parents of your friends, teachers, people from your church, or any adult who may know you. Also, only list people who would give you a positive evaluation.
