I couldn't agree more with your statement, "Religion is a curse in the wrong hands." I can make the same statement for nuclear energy, guns, drugs, automobiles, surgical tools, computers....any of several thousand things. So.....does that make them bad? The problem with religion is people. People come to religion with a whole host of unbalanced personalities, and it becomes a tool to carry out their sick, demented views. Human beings were born to worship. If they don't worship a Deity, they worship themselves....sometimes they do both simultaneously. Throwing away religion because it is a curse in the wrong hands is like cutting off your nose to spite your face, or throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
So am I defending my religion? No. I'm defending my right to have a religion without being persecuted for it. And I'll defend the rights of anyone else to have theirs with the same respect. As with any freedom, however, your freedom ends where someone elses begins. There is no freedom to practice something that hurts another human being.

I believe what happened to that woman was about 97% wrong. First off, she is british, and obviously not Islamic, therefore did not know that by using the name Mohammed she was displaying their god as a "bear".
Secondly, It was named after one of the children in her class, whose name also happened to be Mohammed.
Yes, I do believe people have the right to defend their religion, but I do not at all condone whipping people for such a simple mistake.
The bad thing is, Sudan's goverment, and in fact, most of the country is Islamic, therefore whipping and treating people in such an unhumane manner is OK, as it is their religious traditions.
The difference here in Australia is that the government and law is not religiously biased, and any religion, no matter what their traditions, still have to abide by OUR laws.
I am catholic born, but I do not follow any religion in particular, because quite frankly, i believe all religions are bogus. The only exception I would make would be the Buddhist religion. The buddhist religion is accepting and friendly, humane and non-violent.
Religion could easily be compared to certain social groups at a high school: People flock to the most popular religion. To Hollywood celebrities, this is Scientology or Kabbalah.
Many religions are also just money hungry fools, such as Hillsong, which requires each of it's followers to give 10% of their earnings to the church.
I don't know. I am leaning more toward no religion, and a little towards buddhism.
I just wish for peace - as everyone else should.

I beleive that is a horible thing to say. It is one of our freedoms as Americans, first of all, to worship God in the way we choose. I will admit that some people go way to far, but religion in itself is not a bad thing.
For example, if everyone went around followin Christain law (or Jehova's Witnesses, or Catholic, or a couple of other religions) than there would be very few crimes and murders.
I, for one, don't know how Athists live. To believe that your all alone in the world, dumped here by accident, with no path and no hope...
To think that there is nothing after death, that you will think no longer, that you will be dead forever in a cold underground grave....
I am glad that I have God on my side.
People like the Muslims, however, are not worshiping God. In my opinion, very few of them even believe they are. They are just trying to destroy true religion, and kill those that do have hope.

How in the world can anyone whether Muslim, Christian or Atheist justify the killing of a women over another person naming a teddy bear?!?
Honestly I'm beginning to believe that Islam is a cult and not a religion. I have more respect for Scientology.

I believe my God is a loving and forgiving God. He knows how imperfect we are... but surely He is weeping knowing what Islam is up to this time. They embrace violence in the guise of religion. There is no religion in their hearts, no goodness, no seeking the truth. Just like the early Crusades in 1025, its very easy to guise your evil wishes and cloak it in religion. This bear thing has not a thing to do with Mohammed or religion ... it's all about a blood thirsty group of sickos who just jump on anything that can satisfy their thirst for violence. Shame , shame on them.

The children behave better when the father yells. Let us hope that this is all this is. As for the rest, I do not know what to say. I am sure there are many passionate hearts on both sides of the issue. It astounds me that they hold such an obviously innocent person responsible. Remind you of anyone?

I am Christian and I think this teddy bear issue is just crazyness. I mean OMG! I wonder if a teacher in the US told her public school children that a class room teddy bear was named "Jesus" if she would get the same or worse. I wish people would chill out. TEddy bears are special and they probally choose a "special" name for that teddy. People should grow up.

Fanatics are Fanatics are Fanatics. Every religion has them and we all wish they didn't. they represent the person, not the religion. Unfortunatly the news media usually only likes to show the fanatics and succeeds in giving the impression that all are like that.
