I've recently quit my recent job after being there for 5+ years, and he excepted my notice early. he said he would pay me for the 2 weeks. I was paid salary + commission and when i got my final check i see that he didn't give me commission from the month prior (roughly $350) and he didn't pay me for the thanksgiving holiday. The rule was if you work the Wednesday before and the Monday after you will be paid for both days (thurs and fri) but he let me go on Tuesday. is this fair and should i contact him and let him know how much off an *** he is.. let me add this... other people has left and he allowed them to finish out their 2 weeks. i'm just so mad b/c my check was $600 less then what i should have gotten... help!

You probably won't get the holiday pay, but you have a claim for the commission from the prior month. You will need to contact them to request this compensation, and I would suggest submitting the request in writing and copy the Payroll Department.

Remember that they have a time limit to pay you any money that you are actually owed upon separation from employment. In most states they must pay you by the first regularly scheduled payday after your separation or sooner in some states (like California.)

Your only claim might be to any commissions unpaid, and that would depend on your employment rules. If commissions earned are to be paid when terminating employment, then you should ask for them. The lost holidays are lost. You were terminated before you gained the advantage of those two paid days.

Aside from that, I would agree he's being somewhat of a butthead. Did he not like you for some reason ?

You need to call them or go in person and ask for the money or a good reason why you did not get the money. I would state that XXX person excepted my leaving early and they should of told me that I would lose out and at that point I would of made the decision to stay on a little longer. Be nice and see if you get your cash. It happened to me at a job once. They gave me the money and I was very polite the entire time to them. Once I was out the door with my cash...I gave them the finger and I felt good!

Well, he let you go early so he wouldn't have to pay you for the Holiday.

But you need to ask him about the commission.
