Freedom of speech was allowed in US constitution so an introduction of genuine ideas for improvement of society or one who criticises against the people in authority is not punished. That much freedom is extremely necessary for every society to progress in right direction.

Printing pornographic materials which always reach to the hands of minors, and using foul language even against God and Prophets of God, highest authority of government is
misuse of freedom of speech and should not be allowed.

When President Clinton was asked humiliating questions about his relationship with a female intern and every comment on this topic was publicised on television, it caused tremendous damage to the image of US Presidency and defamation in entire world. What President did was immoral behavior in private situation. May be Mis Lewinsky was hired by opponents of President to bring him down.
Such things should not be opened to public and world press for the interest of the honour of Presidency and country and society as a whole.

Today more than 51% men and women do the same in their lives day and night. They do not even hide their activities from friends but they are never reported on television. Then President also should not be subjected to such a humiliation. Society should let him deal with his wife, his family, his concious and his God. At some point when a person like President and a famous religion scholar who happens to do such a thing, comes in his senses, he will regret with tears more than an ordinary person. President is human also and can make such mistakes. But defaming a President of country is defaming your country, your society and your culture.

This should always be kept out of reach of the press or there should be laws against press that misuses such an information. Unfortunately this is the menace of democracy that opponent want to win election at any cost and would exploit such a situation to maximum for getting votes for himself.

n9wff took the words right out of my mouth! I couldn't have said it better! Freedom of speech went out with black and white television sets. In this 'politically correct' society, you have to watch what you say anymore. If you say the wrong thing and someone is 'offended' by it or their 'rights' are violated, they'll either sue you or you'll get a fine for it. The freedoms that we know now are slowly being taken away from us, like a rug being pulled out from under us and it won't get any better!

That's a myth hun. You can make the law, but you can't make the people follow the law. Society has limits to everything. Ever seen that little 'report' button? That limits our freedoms of speech. We can't express ourselves with out someone objecting because of human nature. If you don't want people to know something, don't write it or say it. Unless you plan on burning the secret if you wrote it down.

Last time I checked it was still fully in effect. We do however have the right to disagree with what someone is saying. If we can't contradict or disagree with what someone is saying then that infringes on our freedom of speech.

Along with the rest of The Constitution and The Bill of Rights, it's going to Hell in a hand-basket since Bush instituted The Patriot Act.

Nothing. You can say what you want. Some things you say will have consequences....some good, some bad. Basically it's the same freedoms as with any other: Your freedom ends where mine begins.

People are only truly free to the degree that they are willing to give up their freedoms for the illusion of greater security.

The same thing as the right to keep and bear arms. It isn't about duck hunting, nor does it mean it's OK to wear sleevless shirts.

That would depend on where you live.

Here in the U.S. we "suffer" from (in the words of one our dear muslim friends here on R&S) "uncontrolled freedom"...including freedom of speech.

This same concept doesn't even appear to exist in quite a few countries.
