He fed the hungry, healed the sick, and spoke out against the oppression of both the secular government and the religious authorities. Perhaps that is what he meant when he said "Come, follow me" - What do you think?

Jesus was no "rabble rousing social liberal". Jesus taught that man should "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and to God, that which is God's".

Jesus never taught that the people should try to overthrow the government. The main objects of His wrath were the religious leaders of the day that had created their own man made version of Judaism and were teaching the Jews and doing things that were contrary to the Bible.

Most of the Jewish leaders hated Him so much that they demanded that the Roman government execute Him by crucifixion.

Jesus was all of those things and I admire that; it's people who followed after Jesus who have made him into something else.

Jack's blasphemous assertion:

In fact, if Jesus were to come back today and see what's been done in his name, he'd absolutely deny being a Christian...

I don't think Jesus was a social liberal! He told people that even if they only THOUGHT about sinning they were still sinning against God.

Liberal is the opposite of cheap, cheapskate, miser, tightwad, pennypincher, etc. so no it doesn't bother me, it's very accurate:

Proverbs 11:25 - The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

2 Corinthians 9:13 - Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men;

He was not!
HE HELD TO THE 10 COMMANDMENTS!
Jesus refined them into two...really one...
1) Love God With You're Whole Heart
2) Love others as yourself!!!
...God IS love!!!

Over and over again, He taught us to believe in and live a spiritual and ethical life based on Godly "goodness".

What Jesus promoted was a set of spiritual principals and a way of life based upon the of love, compassion, tolerance, and a strong belief in the importance of giving and of generosity to those in need.

Is that your definition of liberal. I would say He was consvervative, but loving!

Any rational person should be conservative about things we need to CONSERVE, including God's eternal standards; but "liberal" in changing things that need to change, like exploitation of others!!!

For examples, Jesus said...

Matthew 5:
6] Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7] "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy

Matthew 6:15] But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Matthew 22: 21]
Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the
things that are God's.

Luke 14:13 &14.] But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.

Matthew 6:6 & 7] And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret…"

Sounds more like a compassionate conservative. Don't forget, he believed, followed and quoted the Old Testament and accepted it as God's word. He said, go and sin no more. He said WE should help the poor, sick, orphan and widow, not the government.
Libs reject the Bible, insist that govt. do it all and the individual do nothing.
