At one time humans were relatively thin, and we all had dark skin. As we moved northward, away from the hot, sunny plains of the equator, we lost our melanin, gained the ability to store fat, became shorter and stockier (which aided in climbing rough, mountainous terrain), and our hair grew longer and straighter (for warmth.)

These survival traits took thousands of years to weave their way into the genetic pool, and millions of poorly adapted individuals had to die in order for these traits to become dominant.

Even intellectually limited beings like ourselves can see sexual reproduction is a slow, random, inefficient means of modifying the genome. When humans want "better" plants and animals, we engineer them ourselves, bypassing the random inefficiency of "god/nature."

If god can create perfection on a whim, why doesn't this intelligent, loving creator do what we do, and make his most cherished creations better adapted? Does he enjoy waste and needless death? Is this "intelligent?"

Note: I don't believe in god, but my questions give the benefit of the doubt for those who do, so I can indulge you in THINKING.

First, your base analogy compares people to inanimate plants and consumer foods, and I hope you are not analogous to a genetically engineered tomato. One can certainly manipulate an object when feelings and preferences are not involved because the object doesn't have that capacity. I would reconsider that argument of your paragraph three, doesn't follow logically from the theory building in your first two paragraphs. In addition, is it preferable to have a mother who controls and monitors every move for their a child, then worse, as an adult too. A relationship with mother is not possible without feeling like a chess pawn because she has to control all that you do and think as she says, "it's in your best interest and mother knows best." That style of parenting isn't productive, either. The most productive way to parent is to provide as much possible for the offspring in the beginning formulative years, then to leave the rest open to chance. Most people would not describe a controlling and manipulative mother as neither intelligent or loving, even if it did turn out that mother was always right.

Of course, a lot of Man's "intelligent" genetic experiments end up having unexpected consequences that differ greatly from the intended ones. I suspect that the genetic engineering of foodstuffs and other genetic "tampering" will not yield results as straightforward as the men who undertake them believe they will. We live in a complex universe. The supposition that there is a loving and intelligent God relies on a Man-centered philosophy which, of course, becomes absurd on a universal scale. The idea of death and suffering being evil also rests on an anthropic viewpoint. I tend to believe more in a chaotic model of evolution, which is not say it operates by "chance" but by "complexity." Death is natural, even suffering is natural. To rail against a God because we believe it isn't is to deny reality, as is to believe a God would conduct his cosmic "creation" in a manner similar to what we would. Simply, God cannot be proven or disproven by claiming perfection or imperfection in this complex universe. It is an emotional reaction that is Man-centered.

Isn't it obvious, it's all fake. It just makes people feel better thinking they have a purpose and that they'll live for eternity. When you break it down like that, it really becomes obvious how foolish the whole idea of there being a God is. If there is any truth to the bible or any biblical writings at all, than it is a misinterpretation of reality, because the people were so unintelligent when the bible was written. Look at the people that answered this question, most of them are idiots, and it's the year 2007!!!!

Of course the answer to your question is that there in no God and there never has been.

There is nothing at all outside the reality of nature that has the ability to take any action to "re-create" anyone or cause any "re-design" of the entire human species for purposes of adaption and survival or for any other reason. God is a man-made myth and has no supernatural power or ability or influence upon anything real or upon any segment of reality. There is nothing at all that is within God's power -- what God has been commonly believed to be is, quite simply, entirely incorrect.

I would rather believe there is NO GOD than to believe that someone who says he loves us is so damned nasty.

He creeps me out with all that hell and damnation stuff. I am not taking a chance God is real if that's the way he rolls.

Un uh, nope, not me. Everybody needs to believe in something, I guess. I believe I will have another Snickers bar.

i don't converse w/ atheists on a daily basis so i think you are more knowledgeable about that. i do know something about the bible b/c i read it often. good book. good stories. good information on life. if you read in the first & second chapter of genesis you will see that god creates everything & it is "good." which means it is perfect & in balance in the world. a very intelligent design that was in harmony w/ man. it is not until the second chapter that you see god saying that something is "not good." that is that man is alone. he created woman next to be man's helper in life. that's where the perfect balance seems to fall apart. man & woman question god's perfect design & think they know better. it's like "let's make a deal" with the serpent & they chose the wrong door. no prizes, in fact there is an angel w/ a flaming sword at the entrance of eden who would slash them to pieces if they ever tried to enter the perfect world again. bummer. we did it. we were responsible for ending the perfect balance. our choice, not god's. he set it up for success (fruit of ALL trees in garden of eden could be eaten but only the ONE in the center was forbidden.) that's my best understanding of it. all downhill from there as they say... all the things you wrote about are evidence of man's downfall. oh well. sounds bad, doesn't it? here's the upside. as a christian i know i will live in a perfect world one day. where everyone there will be in perfect form. no wars, no disease, no poverty. our time here to experience the adam/eve fallout is short compared to eternity. i'm looking forward to the new eden. i love gardens & can eat fruit all day.

Death is a natural way of life. When it is your time, you will go to heaven if you are saved. God said life would have struggles and tests that will make you stronger. For example, ten years ago my dad died in a car wreck where I was paralyzed. It was my dad's appointed time to go and I accept that. That experice has made me a stronger person and Christian. I pray that you will give your life to God because you need him.
