I have a 93 Ford step side 5ltr. I see oil in the coolant. I also have a pretty good leak of oil at the bottom not sure where poss oil pan. I have read about oil in coolant and see Head gasket or crack. But if the head gasket is gone would i not get a white smoke out the pipe at idle? Can any one help?

If it's an automatic and the trans cooler is inside the radiator, check the trans fluid...may be a cracked cooler, and if the trans fluid is old enough, you won't be able to tell the difference from engine oil.

Depends on where the crack or gasket leak is located. If you look at a cylinder head, you'll see passages for the oil, coolant, as well as valve area that let's in the air/gas mixture and exhausts the fumes after combustion. You probably have the leak between an oil and coolant passageways which might not contaminate the valve/combustion camber. Usually, it's just a gasket, but if you've severely overheated your engine .. $$$.

See a few mechanics for quotes. Ask family and friends for places/people they trust. Take into account the quality of the entire vehicle and if you want to invest that money in the engine or a replacement vehicle.

you would only get smoke out the pipe at idle or even high rpms for that matter if the head gasket is blown into the exhaust side of the head, not the intake, that is where it is going is the intake cause you have oil in it, good luck

I would guess that the Tranny cooler in the rad. is leaking, or very rare is the timing chain cover, or lower intake gasket leaking, that would also leak oil at the rear of the motor.
