It is because we have realized that those people who "talk" to God have mental disorders and we treat them with medication to regulate their problems. In the Bible, they treated them like prophets for trying to kill their son (Abraham), today we take the child away and treat would have given Abraham the care he needed.
God doesn't reveal himself these days is because we understand more and more the natural world and realize that lightning and thunder are caused by nature and why they occur. Also, why earthquakes happen, etc. It is believed that Sodom & Gomorrah (if indeed ever existed - which is still up to debate since no archaeological evidence found) if existed would have been detroyed by earthquake as there is a major fault line in that area that it is told they existed (the Dead Sea area).

He does reveal Himself, in the pages of His Word, the Bible, which the early believers didn't have the use of, because it was a work in progress.

B/c in the time of the bible "he" didn't reveal himself either. People were just less educated thousands of years ago and sought to explain the then unexplainable with a made up deity. Today people are more educated and less likely to explain away a strange occurance as being the work of a god.

What makes you think God doesnt reveal Himself today? There are many,many times that God has shown His prescence today and yesterday. You just have to be aware of those times. Faith in God helps a lot.

Jesus changed everything. In the old bible days, you were saved by good works and following God's law. Then when Jesus came, he said we are now saved by grace, all we have to do is believe, and let him lead our hearts. Well apparently we need to believe in what we can't see to be saved this way. It's part of the cost of salvation.

In due time He will reveal Himself to humanity but for now, we are to follow Him in faith, that doesn't mean blind stupidity, but He doesn't want us to look for miracle displays, He did that before, and they still forsook Him, so now, He say's, you must believe that I am, Jesus spoke to the doubter of the group and said to him, because you have seen you believe? I tell you the truth, blessed are those who do not see and yet believe, for theirs is the kingdom of heave.
