Showers are usually thrown by bridesmaids or family. It would be odd for you to plan your own. Why don't you throw a party to celebrate your marriage when you get back or at a time that is more convenient. You can register, or just let people bring gifts.

The bride and groom plan the WEDDING and tell people. People throw them showers or bachelor parties IF THEY WANT TO. You don't ASK for a shower but you Do accept graciously if someone wants to do this for you. And, YES, after you return, it would be courteous to have the same galpals over to your new home to see photos of the actual ceremony or take the photos to work along with some treats at coffee break.

The purpose of a shower is to "shower the bride" with gifts. Showers are planned FOR you by people who want to....if somebody offers it's not rude to accept. When planning a guest list you should probably only invite people who were invited to attend the wedding (not neccesarily that they are coming....but they were invited)
As the bride you never request a shower or plan your own.

My cousin got married in Hawaii with just immediate family present, since we all live in the Midwest and couldn't all afford to go out there. His mom threw a shower for his fiance that we went to, since we couldn't go to the wedding. They also had a shower with her extended family as well.

yes....and no. sure, you can have a shower, BUT, it is a huge slap in the face to invite someone to a shower but not to the wedding. it's like saying 'i want your gifts but you aren't important enough to be with me on my big day.'
so i would say anyone attending the wedding can be invited to the shower. otherwise.....big no no.

If you're asking if its selfish or anything, the answer is no. Just make sure it's not YOU throwing the shower, and you should be fine.
