I know the logical answer would probably be yes, but I wanted to ask and see if I should check with the doctor. Yesterday I ate a medium sized bag of hot cheetos and today my poop is VERY red. It's so red it almost looks as if blood is mixed in, in addition to very red stools! I say that because when I looked in the toilet, the water has turned red as well!
My stomach is kind of upset, too, so I've got a bit of diarrhea. The red is as bright as the cheetos themselves and there's a bit of burning for a minute or two after I've gone to the bathroom.
Sorry, I know this is kind of gross, but is this likely from the food or is it possible that this is blood?

Thanks so much for all of the helpful answers.
And to all of you who say the logical answer is "no", I didn't mean to ALL red food since I went on to explain that I specifically ate red cheetos and was wondering if putting red up top can make red come out in the bottom in my case; but I didn't think I'd need to explain that given the details of my question.
Thanks again, most of you were a lot of help :)

And also, I'm 21 years old. I've had my period for the last nine years. I know what a period is, it's not that.

It's from the food. give it a day, and your poop will be back to normal.

My understanding is that if your stool is black, then it's caused by internal bleeding. If you have blood in your stools, then it could be caused by an anal fissure, which are generally not very serious. I'm thinking that your stool is red because of the cheetos. The burning comes from the spice in the hot cheetos. If you aren't having any other symptoms, my hunch would be just to wait and see what happens. A clue is that you ate the whole bag of cheetos. You could even call customer service for cheetos and ask them if their stuff makes poop turn red. If it does, I bet it isn't the first time they've answered that question.

Stool comes in a range of colors. All shades of brown and even green are considered normal. Only rarely does stool color indicate a potentially serious intestinal condition.
Stool color is generally influenced by what you eat as well as by the amount of bile — a yellow-green fluid that helps digest fats — in your stool. As bile pigments travel through your gastrointestinal tract, they are chemically altered by enzymes — changing the pigments from green to brown.
Consult your doctor if you're concerned about your stool color. If your stool is bright red or black — which may indicate the presence of blood — seek prompt medical attention.

I've ate blue cereal before and mixed with BM brown, it turns toxic glowing green! ALSO, I know for sure I've seen watermelon and tomato skins unprocessed in BM before. I've also seen corn, beans, buttons, nuts, etc. (I change approx. 10 poopy diapers / day. I have from experience ate buffalo wings and then had a very spicy hot bottom after my morning BM!!!! I'm sure if you ate HOT cheetos it may have contained some sort of pepper which could have been red. If you're young, and generally healthy....wait a few days....gorge yourself again on the hot cheetos and see if it happens again!

Well... once about 2 years or so ago I ate a bunch of red licorice, like a jumbo pack or something, and then I went to the bathroom, and my poop was red, then I asked my dad (he's a doctor) about it and he said it was the licorice, and after that, no more red poop. So in short, yes.

Some red foods can come out red, yes. See how you're doing in a day or so, if you continue to have what appears to be blood in your stool or in the water, it may warrant a doctor visit.

Well, Bright red means the blood is forming in he lower part of your colon. Not serious in most cases. (Assuming it was blood...any on the toilet paper?) If the blood is dark brown or black then it is way up inside your colon. (The beeding that is black/brown is bad) Give it a few days and see what happens. If still red in a week go and see a doctor. Eating red food should not make your waste red.
