An age where the person is both physically and emotionally capable.

Yes, I realize this would mean some people would never be of consenting age, but is that really such a bad thing?

here it is 16 - the age you can marry.( would be a problem for the wedding night if it wasn't)

some other countries it is 14 if the parents says its okay This is for someone close to their age - as far as i know

Others it can be as low as 12

In some areas of India in used to be as young as 9, but this is no longer approved of. some of these were married to older men

The age of consent is an issue that raises strong emotions.
Arguments about kids entering puberty earlier don't work as a reason. With kids as young as 3 in puberty until medical helped them have a "normal" childhood. And a vague memory of a baby girl being born with pubic hair, it made the news.

The age of consent could be lowered to 15 without too many people going crazy over the issue, but under 14 would be a stretch too far for most.

I know some 16 year olds, or even 18year olds who are not ready. Lets face it some 25 year olds aren't ready

I Think 16 is fine for now, a few years ago a group of teenagers tried to have it lowered to 14, they all had boyfriends/girlfriends - so were in relationships, and were worried about the law relating to their partners. As far as I know the politicians, buried the issue. More or less patting the kids in the head, then giving a load of talk before ignoring them.

This issue make the politicians nervous - since it would loose them votes. Sooner or later another group of teens will push the issue again - and governments will squirm

Kids today are growing up too quickly and missing out on really being young! I know the age of consent in most states is 16 and some are as low as 14; however, I honestly believe that until a child reaches the age of majority, when he is legally responsible for his own actions, they should not have the authority to give consent over their bodies. That would mean, that until a child reaches 18 years of age, he is a minor...even when it comes to sex...and an adult fooling around with someone under that age would be held responsible for screwing up the child's chance for a productive, happy adult life.

How many people did I tick off with this?

The legal age of consent is a state problem, no longer a nationwide adjustment. in case you imagine that making an age of consent will save little ones from having sex your are thoroughly lost. The age of consent is largely to save adults from sexing with a minor. It would not do one problem to end a 14 12 months previous lady from getting her bell rung by ability of yet another 14 12 months previous. Neither of them is going to detention center for it. So this consent regulation is somewhat crap.

16. 13 is really too young. You can't expect a child to hit puberty AND deal with it as an adult right away. That's how unwed mothers are born. And I think in some ways 16 is too young. But I've met some very mature 16 yo.s
