I heard their is a Hadith saying that if you don't speak Arabic, you can say the prayer in the language you speak?

I don't speak Arabic, but I can see the stuff in Arabic, although I don't understand it at all.

So would it be ok for me just to do the prayer in English, until I can learn Arabic? (New muslim of 2 days ago fyi)

hmmm well as i know it, salat should be done in arabic. the way i started off was by reading transliteration it off of a paper....make sure you know what the meaning of the words is tho, cuz without that it is meaningless to you! lol....take it slowly...salat gets a LOT easier, trust me =)
As you learn each part of the prayer, you can get rid of that part of the prayer on the paper you are reading from...and gradually, the amount you have to READ will be very small, and the rest will be in your memory =)
good luck
masalam

As salaamu 'alaikym warahmatullahi wabaraktuh, my brother and my friend.

Insha'Allah, please site the hadith you are referring to as I have never seen it and would very much apreciate your assistance in locating it.

Insha'Allah, to the best of my knowledge, which, in all true humility is limited, salaat should be recited in Arabic just as the surahs and ayats were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (sallaahu 'alaihi wasallaam) and just as he prayed.
As Muslims, we have been enjoined to pray as the Prophet (saw) prayed and I assure you, he prayed in Arabic.

Insha'Allah, I, too, am a revert to Islam and I am not a native Arabic speaker!
What helped me to learn the prayers was to write them out in Latinized or Romanized form. Below what amounts to phonetic Arabic, I wrote the English translation of the same. It is permissable to read from such as one prays and , if you do so, considering you will be reading it at least five times each day, you will quickly learn the prayers, surahs, etc.

I would also recommend going online to IQRA International Educational Foundation (just use IQRA to search). They have a textbook entitled "Short Surahs" which will quickly help you in learning 14 short surahs, learning to read the Arabic version and words and the meanings of the same.

There is also the "Al-Qari plus" CD which will also help you learn Arabic as well as assist you in memorizing the Holy Qura'an.

Insha'Allah, ask at the masjid you attend as I would imagine that they have classes in reading the Holy Qur'an which will also help.

Alhumdulillah! Jazak'Allah! Insha'Allah, I am very happy for you.
May Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, guide you on the straight path of Islam! You have made the best decision of your life! Alhumdulillah!

Ma'a salaam.

Yes most definitely. Congratulations and welcome to Islam. Do not worry: just learn the Arabic in your own time and try not to feel anxious or frustrated as it is often a slow process to do so. Remember: Islam was introduced over a period of about 23 years, which means that the companions (may Allah subhana wa ta'alala be pleased with them) of the Prophet (may the peace and blessing of Allah subhana wa ta'ala be upon him) had a long time to become fully acquainted with Islam. See Islam as a way and a journey for life. Learn to walk before you can run so you don't stumble and fall. Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessing of Allah subhana wa ta'ala be upon him) said the way is easy. Sometimes we have to be careful also that we don't get into a scenario of not being able to see the wood for the trees. If you need any help: please feel free to email me.

Salam alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.

It's ok to pray in English or your native langauge until you learn Arabic. The 5 obligatory Salat are to be said in Arabic. It's not that hard to learn actually. Once you learn Arabic then you'll be able to recite your Salat in Arabic.
Assalaamualyakum ha rahamtu ALLAH.
