Mexico's army in WW I was 1800's style (horse drawn cannons, cavalry on horseback and soldiers marching across the battle field in line-abreast. Their navy and Air Force were even less impressive (actually, I believe they had a total of 2 or 3 aircraft at the time).
The US army was similar in organization, but with better, more modern equipment, and modern tactics.
The US navy and army air corp forces were far supieror.
The Mexicans could have invaded and occupied maybe a thirty or forty mile wide strip of texas and new mexico, but they could not have held it for long.
Actually, I think a Mexican invasion would have helped us, it would definitely have fired up the population (which at the time was reluctant to embrace the war).

The American Expedition of 1916 was mounted by using National Guard formations such as the 101st, 102nd, 103rd and 104th Infantry Regiments of the 26th Infantry (YANKEE) Division from Massachusetts. At this time in history there are no reserve troop units or an enlisted reserve, just a reserve officer corps which will be needed to make up the shortage of Regular Army Officers from West Point, VMI and the Citadel.
A Mexican Invasion of the American Southwest probably would have met a limited success, six months to a year at best with Mexican forces holding positions within the American borders in California, Texas and New Mexico.
The American Army would have only had a very small edge over the Mexican Army, however this would have improved in short order because of Mexico's lack of technology. With the American access to fighter aircraft, artillery, machine guns, armored vehicles and other wheeled vehicles the invasion would have been routed before the year was over.
This might have resulted with between three and four divisions failing to be deployed to the European war however I do not think it would have had on the overall conduct of the war in Europe.....

No, but a Mexican invasion would have denied us a chance to go to Europe and stop the German offensive. Then, after the Triple Entente (France, England, Russia) surrendered, Germany would invade us.
Let's just say, that would not have been good for America.
-----
But actually, before World War I, Woodrow Wilson invaded Mexico and overthrew their ruler and implaced a President. After that, Mexican rebels attacked cities in the Southern US, even burning Columbus, New Mexico to the ground. But right before the US entered WWI, Wilson sent down troops and the Mexican rebels were annhiliated.

With Prussian Military advisor's and Prussian weapons, and the poor state of the American Military back in the early 1900's they could have done serious damage if not actually take and hold Texas and surrounding States.
At the start of WW1 and up to 1916 the USA industry was not geared for war production, US troops deployed in 1917 in France were equipped with French Artillery, French & British Rifles, Uniforms until adequate supplies could be made and shipped over to them in France.

No it probly wouldn't have been but it would give germany a good advantage. It would have also shifted the balance a bit and germany might win. Then with that if ww2 did occur it would be very different.

Since we were the significant factor in the victory of WWI, I doubt Mexico could have taken us.
However, Mexico's current invasion of the US is successful, but only because we have traitors here who are allowing the invasion.

Yeah, it would have been successful, for about 15 hours, or however long it would take for us to get troops there. Then it is San Juacinto all over again.
