it depends not only on the size, but also how detailed the tattoo is going to be, and if there is color involved. also depends on how well know the shop is. the artist has a lot of say in what the final price will be. chances are if you pay in cash it will be cheaper than if with a card. for flash work or small pieces you can usually negotiate with the artist on the price but its up to the artist what they want to charged based on the above criteria.

most shops have a minimum charge like $50 or so at minimum expect to pay that. most of my artists charge 100 - 150 bucks an hour, for larger more complicated pieces.

remember to tip your artist as well.

it depends on where you go. i went to a shop that charged a minimum of $40 for a small tattoo and when i got a bird on my hip (it's about 2inches x 2inches) he charged me $50 for black.
just ask the place where you want to get it done, they'll quote a price for you.
