No signal when using DVI to component.?

I have a macbook pro and magnavox lcd tv. The TV does not have dvi in so i bought a dvi to component cable. The computer recognizes that it is connected to the tv but I get "No Signal" on the tv.

There are two DVI flavors. Analog DVI (which is like VGA) and Digital DVI.
If your Mac has a Digital DVI, then DVI to component cable will not work.
However, if your TV has HDMI , a DVi-to-HDMI cable will work just fine.
