I'm aware Matthew 10:34 might be interpreted as such but where are the others - please note, this is only about encouraging war.

eh ... warfare, as in killing.

I know what Matthew 10:34 means, I'm just sick of all these people saying the NT is full of violence when they can't back it up with scripture.

It's a spritual warfare...

1 Timothy 6:12 tells us to "fight the fine fight of the faith..."
Ephesians 6:11 tells us to "put on the complete suit of armor..."

And similar scriptures...

2 Corinthians 10 says this:
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage warfare according to [what we are in the] flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but powerful by God for overturning strongly entrenched things. 5 For we are overturning reasonings and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God; and we are bringing every thought into captivity to make it obedient to the Christ; 6 and we are holding ourselves in readiness to inflict punishment for every disobedience, as soon as YOUR own obedience has been fully carried out."

Cool, huh? Does that help?

Matthew 10:34 probably refers to the sword dividing families because some followed Jesus while others didn't. I don't think it's actual warfare, as some might try to say.

I can't find a verse anywhere either to justify unprovoked war. The Government (see Romans 13) has the power to defend citizens, e.g. There is a difference between turning the other cheek, personally, and defense of a nation and its citizens.

You raise a good point and I am in 100% agreement with you.

The New Testament is not encouraging any kind of physical war. We are not to fight flesh and blood (humanity) but powers and principalitites ( demons). Most people do not know that they are being controlled by demonic spirits, some do, or else how do you explain a mother who without any previous acts of violence suddenly stabs her little baby in the bathroom, and walks of to a party? That is demonic in nature. that's what we are fighting here, satan is coming against those who belong to christ, trying to turned them once again back to their " old self " and is constantly warring against us in our minds, thru finances, health, ect...
