I am currently going through the application process to become a PCSO. I should shortly be completing the Police medical examination, and I would like to know more about this.

Firstly, I don't really like exposing examinations, so I ask how much clothing will I have to take off?

Secondly, I am not very comfortable with physical contact from strangers (even though they will be medical professionals), so I ask to what extent will I be physically examined?

Finally, I would just like to ask, is the medical examination low-key, i.e. a blood test, a urine test, and perhaps a pulse check, or does it involve more meticulous inspection of the body?

Thank you to anyone who provides me with feedback, especially those of you who have completed this medical examination.

If you answer the pre-examination questionairre honestly the medical examiner (ususally a nurse) checks the following

1. Blood pressure/heart rate
2. Lung capacity/function
3. Eye sight
4. Hearing
5. Urine test

Sometimes they visually examine the back of your legs for varicose veins and thats about it. Lasts about 20 minutes and is totally non-invasive. If the nurse has a worry about anything she/he will refer you to the force doctor on the same day.

I had a medical in June this year, so that should be current. Good luck.

Depends entirely on the Agency.....most include urine, EKG, blood pressure, normal check up things and some include a prostate exam....if you don't like physical touching from strangers, you are gonna HATE that!!!! There will be vision & hearing tests, a color vision check and a bunch more stuff I can't recall.....been too long since I did mine. If they don't require a prostate check, you will probably only have to pop your shirt off...though a lot of places will make you wear that ridiculous gown.

Though if you are so against contact by strangers and "exposing situations" then perhaps this career field isn't for you. Somethng you may want to look into.......there is a lot of contact by/with/to strangers....and none as nice as a doctor or nurse. :(

I cant comment on the PCSO medical but i did a medical for the police (PC) a couple of years ago for a force in England.

They did blood pressure checks, urine tests, took a hair sample (for drug testing), eye sight and hearing tests, that test for how much you can exhale, checked my breathing / heart and asked me to do various movements i.e stand on one foot, walk on your heel etc.

The only physical contact i recall was in order to take your blood pressure, hair sample and 'listen' to your chest (for which you will have to remove your shirt).

If a medical condition is disclosed (i.e. an old injury to a knee) they they will no doubt look further into that area.

And to put your mind at rest there is no internal examination or requirement to drop your trousers and cough!

Anyone in the US can become a police officer. In the United States people say that the same people that become criminals become police officers. Not all police are bad actually the majority of them are not but I don't like how lazy our police force has become. Instead of proper police training they are handed a taser. An officer today acts like they cannot handle even the slighest bit of ruffle, they just pull out their taser and attack them regardless of age, disabilities, pregnancies, illnesses..I want to like the police but I have seen too many disgusting and corrupt ways.

My examination was basically a regular physical. Of course I had to submit to a drug and alcohol test also. Vision and hearing was done as well as a psychological test and evaluation. The physical exam was mainly to check for heart conditions, hernia, and anything that could possibly disqualify you for the job. A check for diabetes was done also, not that it would necessarily be cause for disqualification.
