It sounds kind of snotty to say, but I don't know what else to think at this point. My boss is an ok guy but he cannot grasp ideas or concepts as quickly as I can....he works very slowly, and the tiniest change freaks him out. He'll literally start to turn red and clench his fists like a 3 year old in the midst of a tantrum. He gets very frustrated when he tries to explain something to me that I already get. If I come up with an idea or a solution to an issue too quickly, he'll initially tell me no, don't do it that way, then try to figure it out himself, only to conclude that I was right in the first place. It's a delicate situation because I don't want to offend him or piss him off, but I can't really slow my thought process down to please him, and I shouldn't have to--I mean, I thought productivity was kind of a key component to business, you know? Has anyone ever had a similar experience? If so, how did you handle it?

I should mention that I work as the director of an early childhood education program, and my job title is Director. I'm responsible for managing all aspects of the program and the business. So I'm not a know-it-all kid, I'm an experienced professional.

It is quite possible that you are smarter than your boss. If I were you, I would ask myself if this is a good position to be in. An ideal boss is someone you can learn from. If you can't learn from this man, he's not a good boss for you.

I have found that most of the people who are in charge in this world are morons. Morons keep elevating morons to higher positions and then those morons promote even more morons. I have never worked for anyone who was more intelligent than I am. I mean, for some reason the people who are smart and know what they are doing are always passed over for the kiss *** guy who has his nose so far up the bosses you know that he gets promoted over everyone else who actually can do their jobs. Anyway, what I do is make my boss think that every idea I have is his. I will say, "remember when you told me about such and such, that was a great idea". Even though he knows it wasn't his idea he will acknowledge it and take the credit. I know that I shouldn't let him take the credit for my ideas but how else will my workplace be more efficient. Give and take.

The last time I worked retail, I was smarter than 95% of the people in the store, including *all* of the managers. It is a dicey situation. You don't want to be seen as a know-it-all, and yet you don't want to not do something when it's a good idea because your boss fails to grasp that it's a good idea.

I would suggest that you do what you do and be nice about it. If he gets angry, apologize.

Maybe get a different job. That's what I did. Got a college education and *gasp* a job I love.

PS. My boss isn't stupid at this one :)

If you feel that you are smarter than your boss and the position is such that your suggestions and concepts are beyond his ability to grasp, you are definitely overqualified for the position you occupy. Therefore you should be seeking an opportunity which is commensurate with your abilities.Only be sure that you have the abilities you think you have.
