hmmm, in some areas of asia hepatitis b is endemic, so probably r/o hepatitis b. also, hemoglobin e is fairly prevalent in the far east, as well as some thalassemias, so a complete blood count would be advantageous in this assessment to diagnose any anemia issues. if the patient comes from certain rural areas, certain parasitic infections could also pose a problem. i know all of these things can occur b/c i work in a laboratory which screens new refugees coming into the u.s., and i see these problems in southeast asians, depending on their living situations. i am sort of generalizing about asia in general, so i may be stretching this a bit. also, smoking in china is on the increase, so follow-up on associated health problems in smokers may be advantageous.
