I have had both. The Sonicare vibration is very fine and supposedly helps to release the crud better. A regular battery powered tooth brush has much bigger movements. I believe the Sonicare does a better job than a regular battery operated tooth brush, but the dentist felt I was brushing better than I had been when I went from a regular tooth brush to a battery operated tooth brush. I use the Sonicare now.

I use a Sonicare and it does a really good job at removing plaque. The vibrations are faster and better adapted to getting between your teeth. My dentist recommends Sonicare, and I have been very happy at how clean my teeth are. Sonicare and flossing will keep your mouth happy.
