Blocked feelings would be best discussed with a therapist such as a psychologist.
Antidepressants would be prescribed by a family doctor or a psychiatrist.
There are many types of antidepressants prescribed to treat different types of mood disorders.
Confused feelings are not quite the same as being depressed but there may be times that one may cause the other. Start out with an appointment with your family doctor and follow his recommendations. It is often a long process to find the right combination of therapy and drug that works for each individual. Keep in mind that this is quite common in society and there is nothing to fear or feel ashamed about when seeking this type of help.
Antidepressants do not numb the mind as some answerers said. They do affect neurotransmission receptors such as Serotonin reception. A person taking such medication has complete control of their thoughts. The key is finding which drug works best for you as an individual. Your doctor will work with you on this IF he/she feels that drug therapy will help. It is a complicated subject. As one answerer alluded to, mood drugs are intended to make you feel well only as you seek out the cause of your depression. Sometimes, it can be a chemical imbalance of the brain which would mean long-term treatment with the antidepressant drug. Other times, it can be an issue or issues that need to be talked about with a counselor before you can be happy again on your own.

Antidepressants can help. But, therapy is a must if you are having trouble. A good psychiatrist/therapist will help you to develop the tools to deal with your feelings and make better decisions. You may not need antidepressants, or need them temporarily, or you might need them as a permanent solution to maintain your mental health. Make sure ask lots of questions about potential side effects so that you can prepare for them. Also, find someone you can trust to act as a buddy through this.
Pharmacology's still in its infancy - the professionals are still learning more about how the drugs work. But, don't let anyone tell you they don't work. The brain is electrochemical device. Like all parts of the body, sometimes is doesn't do its job. Like with diabetes, there are things that need to be done to assist the person that is having trouble.

Hi there, Im Marion. First, you made a bold step and a good one for asking this question, it shows you really would like to get better. Anti-depressants help block negative feelings and stop you from being stressed. Seeing a counsellor will certainly help as you need to get your feelings out and explained. It may take a while, but it is worth it. When depressed, you just want to hide away from the world and retreat into a 'safe' place , seeing a Dr. will help as you will be encouraged to join social groups with people who feel the same as you. Best of luck, Marion

different antidepressants work in different ways for different people. You need to talk to ur doctor and see which one would be best for you. But to tell u the truth while antidepressants can help u should try to help urself in many other alternate ways before dealing with medicine, such as meditation, yoga, counseling, etc... because its hard to get off the medication once u start and its really expensive

Medication does not help with "Bloked feeling" (sic) but it does correct the neurotransmitter problem that is responsible for depression. Mental illness is an illness... has a physical cause that can be corrected by a physical means (medication), in conjunction with therapy and learning new ways of coping.

I think that there are lots of natural things that can help you and that getting hooked on drugs is not going to help much, that is just what I think? You could write, dance, rest, walk, run, laugh, cry, jump up and down, find something old to smash, go outside in a park where no one else is and scream and yell that might help more? Like someone told me if you are in the position where you can and able and young enough get a job if you don't have one, or find some way to really try to make some spending money that might help, study how to invest your money and become rich? Do something fun with your family?

Anti-depressants are only supposed to be used for a short period of time to help you get through a very difficult time such as the loss of a child or spouse. If you are having problems with blocked feelings you need to get the help of a professional counselor or psychologist to deal with it. Good luck

If it is related to depression it could. You have to take the medication regularly and there are many antidepressants. It may take a while to find the medication which works best for you with the least side effects.

antidepressants will only help you in the short term and you run the risk of giving yourself additional problems by becoming addicted to them.
trying doing things that boost your serotonin levels - exercise is great for this (even just a gentle walk in the park or a little stretching).
check out the site below - it has lots of information about depression and anxiety - you can even do an online test to check whether you need counselling.

i see anti-depressants as frivolous. what the heck is the point of an anti-depressant? on the box, it says WARNING: may cause thoughts of suicide! why would something that's supposed to PREVENT depression do that? huh?
my advice to you is, that really the only reason you're depressed is because you CHOOSE to be depressed. next time, decide to be happy, and you will. i always choose to be happy, even when bad things happen. and i love my life. don't worry, God loves you and always will. indeed he cannot NOT love you. no matter what you do.
happiness and sadness are all in the mind, and you can control how you feel. instead of experiencing the sadness because of the circumstances, be HAPPY because of them. even bad experiences are good, because they help you grow. and bad experiences make the good ones even better! how would you know good, without bad?
I hope this helps you, i know that these ideas helped me =)
