And for the record, I HAVE take history classes, anthropology class and comparative religion. Not much Islam in that class, but anyways, I didn't say I didn't UNDERSTAND. I know it wasn't uncommon. I was asking how the modern day muslim reconciles with that is all.

I'm not sure if that actually happened, but...
In his time (600's C.E.) it wasn't uncommon for men to marry women as young as 5 years old. It still happens in many parts of the world and it's really not that strange when you take their cultural implications along with it.
Marriage in the regions this takes place does not always imply sex. A man may marry a girl aged 5 years old and then wait over 10 years before ever consummating the marriage. Marriage is more of a legal and financial agreement than anything in these cultures... imagine you're a poor man and you have a daughter who is 5 years old. Eventually she'll have to be married because you can't afford to feed and clothe her, but you can't afford the dowry which is the customary gift to the family of the groom... a wealthy man comes to you and says he'll marry your daughter and accept a dowry you can actually afford... what do you think you'd do in that situation?
I agree with the first answer... read a book on either history or anthropology. It'll explain a lot.

Eh. I get all happy when I have a chance to share what I do know about things. I wasn't implying you were misinformed or stupid, I was just trying to help you out.
I'm in the process of studying more about Islam, but the history behind it is something I've only lightly touched upon. I'm not sure how the modern day Muslim would reconcile with that tidbit of information, but I'm guessing there's a lot of dispute as to the actual numbers. Don't forget the Islamic world uses a lunar calendar, so their years are a little different also. I'm not sure how that would impact the ages, because I think a lunar calendar is shorter.

Wikipedia says the girl in question was between the ages of 6 and 9.
Personally, I don't think that modern Muslims need to reconcile that. Culture changes. In medieval Europe there are many cases of very young children of both genders being married, often for political reasons, and it was accepted. We are all products of are culture. I don't think it's reasonable to expect ancient people to live up to modern standards (or vice versa.)

I'm sorry, reconcile what? Is there anything wrong with marrying a 6 years old? Lots of children today are married.
Anyway. Muhammad did married Aisha when she was 6 years old, then they live together when she's 9 years old.
When did they made out and then made love, now THAT I don't know. They probably definetly made out during her teen years, since they live together when she's 9 years old and girls do 'blossomed' in their teen years, the Hadits also mentioned a lot of statements about them making out when they live together as a couple and she was living in her own house.

He had a wife named Aisha and it is not certain how old she was. According to the recorded testimonials of Aisha herself, she claimed to have been 9 when she married but didn't consumate the marriage till she was older.
However, there are some records which state that she was 6, some say she was 9, others say she was 10. Some Islamic scholars have even been able to prove that she was 15-16 at the time she married him.
This one will remain a mystery I guess.

Yes, he did is in the Hadiths. Even Aisha, his child wife, tells the story and tells her age. Many Muslims and their apologists would tell you is false because they don't want to admit it. Is a shameful part of their religion. Some will say she was menstruating and under Islamic culture that makes her a woman. They give you all sorts of reasons for not believing in this. The truth is Mohammed married her when she was 6 and raped her when she was nine. She stayed with him until his death, she was 18 by that time.

Modern Islam says that she was 11 or 12, but other accounts say she was 9. It is not known at what age the marriage was consummated, though.
And in response to other comments, his *first* wife was a wealthy widow. But he had many wives, some were the plunder of his wars.

Yes he did. And according to Muslim scripture he had his first sex with her at age 9.But he had other wife's as well. Including an older rich widow. I can't really see how anyone could see him as a shining example how to live. PS He was one of the biggest warmongers of his time, killing everyone not accepting what he told them to be through.

There is a Hadith that says he married Aisha at six and they consummated the marriage at 9. Not all Muslims accept this one, and I don't know how true it is. But it certainly is out there, and at least some Muslims say it is so.

He allegedly married Aisha, a 6 year old girl at the time. But Aisha went to Mohammed's house when she was 9.

I have heard Muslims admit this.
I haven't a clue how they get around this one.
I did hear she was older, about 9.
