I live in NH where studded tires are allowed. Our State Police run them from October to April. My question: If I were to take a trip to Florida, for example, how much flak would I get for having studded tires? I'm not worried about the general public, but all the different enforcement agencies on the way.

I'm not talking about going out of my way to break any laws. I'm talking about using my regular vehicle, as it is usually set up for winter, and making a trip during the winter.

Here is a listing, by state of their tire chain/studded tire laws.

I would suggest that you look at each state that you will pass through on your trip and see what their law states. I looked a a few of them and although it states at the beginning of the paragraph that they are not allowed, it goes on to say that as long as they protrude no further than a 1/16th of an inch, they are legal to use. You may want to print a copy of this information and take it along with you. It will at least show that you took the time and effort to research the laws. It may keep you from getting a ticket, or worse, having to replace the tires enroute, because some policeman says they are illegal.

Obviously, you will not need your studded tires on the south end of your journey, but it will be less stressful to have them on your vehicle the closer you are to home.

Good luck and I hope this helps....

Setting the law aside I'd just ask, do you want to hear that buzzing on the dry roads down there and why would you wanna wear out the studs on such a long trip. It comes down to the question of whether or not you wanna waste the dough.

Most Cops have better things to worry about other than whether your running studs or not.

I wouldn't do it because everyone I know that has been pulled over out of state had to pay the ticket right then and there.

Why would you go out of your way to break the law and give yourself grief?
